RE: To strip or not to strip...

One other thing, why do people get defensive when people offer to pray for them?  Because YOUR religion should be kept to yourself.  Just like everyone else's religion.

That would make it easier for those that want to pray for them.  They wouldn't have to make the extra trip downtown.

MomOf2, you're comparisons are way off.  It's not a sin to sell stuff.  It's not a sin to kill animals for food.  It IS a sin to commit adultery and to covet.

I still don't understand why people get defensive when others offer to pray for them.  Can someone explain that logic to me? Please?

Thats ignorance comming out though.  Why does every one automatically assume that people are commiting adultry when they go to Whispers or the new place?  These peopoe are CHOOSING to work there.  Just like the people are CHOOSING to go there.

When I CHOOSE to walk into Whispers (whether for entertainment or work) , I dont need people to pray for me!  Number 1, I don't believe in prayer. Number 2, if your going to pray for me anyway, don't waste it on that. Pray that my MS gets better. Pray that my moms cancer gets better.  Don't pray for me because I support a local business in town.

R Hill, I have to say I really appreciate your post.  It has forced me to do some very intense, heavy reading on prayer.

From all the reading I have done I have gathered that private prayer is very, very powerful when requesting things that do not impede with God's will.  It is a MUST for Christians.  We should be in prayer basically at all times.  Not just behind close doors.  I can be in prayer while walking down the street albeit not in a vocal sense.

However, my understanding is that public prayer should be more an act of worship and thanks.  Prayer in public is a very fine line.  Matthew 6:6 is actually a warning to us that we do not pray merely to show that we pray as do the hypocrites in a boastful manner.

So how does this all reflect on the issue at hand?  This is a difficult question to answer as it's not really up to you or me to decide if these people are out there praying boastfully.  Are they praying out loud?  As a group or individually?

Regardless, thanks for the different perspective on this, R Hill.  My eyes have been opened a bit.

Oh yeah?  Well...take this!

Thess.5:17  Pray constantly.

You can't be in private...constantly. wink

Its a strip club!!  Who cares!!  Its a business, they are there to make money. Just like anyone else that runs a buisness!!   I think its crazy that the people at the pet store are selling dogs for $600  piece ! Should I pray for them because of highway robbery?  What about vegetarians ? Should they all go down to sitting bull and pray for my father for selling cattle??  Where does it stop?

Its a strip club...If you like it...go in. If not, stay away!   Someone said it best. I think the strippers should go "privatly dance" outside of the churches.    no

To my knowledge they have never prayed for Whispers to be shut down or for the people working at the bar. The owner of 10 years hasnt had any problems with the churches either. The owners run a clean business and when problems have arose, they took care of it quickly. I think time will tell with this new one. It may last it may not.

Very good question, Brandi.

My only guess is because it didn't cross their minds until the second one came along?confuseconfuseconfuse

Or perhaps they have prayed for them but did it from afar. confuseconfuseconfuse

My question is this, why are they just praying for that partiuclar club?  Why not the one that has been here for years?  Maybe they have in the past and I wasnt aware?

Is praying for someone/people in a situation like this (strip bars) really "judging" them?

And yes!  Most certainly you are correct vko.  Difficult times for many who are close to those involved in yesterdays incident.

The business has every right to be a business - although through their very high dram Insurance (if that is what it is called anymore) are accountable for the drinks served.  The Church and people are accountable to the People of Williston and how they judge.  I think personally - there are families in Williston tonight that need all of our Prayers.

I certainly can't disagree with you guys on that point.  That's what American is all about.

But...what about the people that are "threatening" to pray outside of the establishment?

Steve

My thoughts are this....in my mind this is no different than starting any kind of new business in town....if the owners think they can make money then good for them I wish them well. If I personally don't want to be a patron then I won't be...its that simple. I am not going to berate anyone for grabbing an idea and running with it and doing their own thing. Sometimes I wish I had that kind of courage!

Honestly I've never been akin to these operations.  Have I been to them?  Yes.  But I was usually the first to want to leave.

My first question here is...does Williston really need 2?

Secondly, is there really anything wrong with a group of people who want to pray about this?
