RE: Looking to verify some here-say....

"Yea, thats the answer. Lets all get out there and buy a gun! Don't think so.

Steve, I was never calling you out or anything like that. Just touched a nerve is all.

I think that self defense classes are great. Not sure who puts something like that together. Maybe the college.

I also think there is reason for concern but not just for someone who has a different skin color.

Tonight my wife showed me a pic of a guy who is living at the Vegas Motel. A white guy who has an extremly violent sexual past. Go to www.sexoffender.nd.gov. These are the guys that we need to be vigulant of. This is the trash that the oil field brings in. He grabbed her from a fair and raped her in a corn field.

Another nerve Steve!
"

Bohdan,

I'm saying training and equiping oneself, not just buying something and being incompetent and dangerous with it.  I've had hunters safety under my belt since I was 14 so I learned at an early age to respect, and handle firearms safely.

lots of good testimonies here from people,

also, a quick history of what happens when people dont' exercise or have they rights we've been given stripped from them,

history of gun control,

pepper spray, bear spray, hand to hand, knife, handgun,

however you choose to defend yourself, my point is choose one, and be ready to use it if needed.

practice like it's real, muscle memory is very real, if you practice half speed, when the time comes you'll defend half speed....

p.s.

I believe you need a C.C.W. permit for everything listed above, of course not including your bare hands.

Well if the sex offender was a 18 year old dating a sixteen year old  - and the parents filed charges, that is something different in my mind.  But if he/she was an sex offender with some obscene back ground, that is something totally different.  I do not know the story here, but being married to a contractor, if we had a sex offender on a house, then he had better do the warning and be on the  job site 24/7.  But that is just me  - I lived in a house and then the house down the street started housing sex offenders.  They did not have to worry about the dogs in the yard they had to worry about this mom protecting her child.

So how come when a sex offender moves, the paper let the entire town know where they are at. But when you have one working on the house next door and will be there for awhile....nobody bothers to tell you ??  Shouldn't I have been notified or something ?

I am pretty sure I only spoke about the one guy. No I don't know where he works but I would guess he did't move here to work a Wal-Mart. Maybe he works in construction. In any case he's not from here and doesn't belong here.

I know the ones that have been on there and have had the pleasure of helping put a couple on that list. The public needs to know when trash like this moves to town. That's all he is.

I am not trying to undermine your statement. I want people to understand that we can not automatically look at this as an oil problem. We don't know why he located here. Did he have the assistance of his probation officer? Was it due to the assistance of the the probation department for a location issue? We have had many notices of this type of offender in our paper over time. It had nothing to do with the oil patch but rather our own policy. We do not have strict regulations on living or regulations for offenders in this community. Our policy is less restrictive here. Perhaps that is more the issue than pointing a finger at the oil industry.

I looked at 4 pictures on that site. You state this is the trash the oil field brings in? Did it state that is where they are employed? Three of those men have been in the community for a long time. I have viewed this site in the past. They were all listed as HIGH risk.

"Easy fix: stop shopping at Wal-Mart and buy your groceries from a locally owned establishment.*

*I assume there is still a locally owned grocery store, electronics store, etc.

Support your local economy. Have some home town pride."

amen!  do what you can to support local!

the answer to crime is being vigilant, however having policeman everywhere on foot is not the answer, people who know how to defend themselves are the best deterent out there!

plus the BEST response you can get calling 911 is 5 minutes if someone happens to be just up the street.

one of the best investments you can make in yourself or family is to get some good training in any self defense you can.

one of my favorite quotes from WWII is a japanese general saying they'd never be able to invade america on foot it would be impossible, because there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

to have the peace of mind that sound training brings is priceless, to have confidence in situaitons that require quick action is also such.

www.frontsight.com best firearms training in the world!!! and its here in USA,

Shopping at local grocery stores would be great and all, but its very hard when your on a budget, and these stores charge double (sometimes tripple) what WalMart charges. I'm a walmart supporter in my town because it saves me time and money.  My family comes first and I shop where I get good deals!  Besides that, I'm the first person to admit, I LOVE walmart !  I go almost everyday!! haha

Could very well have been French Canadians but I'd think they'd be to scared to pick a fight. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Don't read too deeply into this Ryan.  I have no problem with diversity.  Lived with it in Fargo all those years.  And I wasn't making stereotypes.  I was asking the question the same way I was presented it.  I've met illegals down in Arizona and they are hard working, extremely family oriented people.  Heck, if the guys I had met in AZ were legal, I'd have told them all about the money there is to be made here.  Very friendly people.

The only people I stereotype are Policemen with mustaches.  And that's only because of that dang show Reno 911.  Had it not been for that series, I wouldn't have that issue. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Speaking of vigilant.  Can you provide some wisdom on how to be vigilant when you're a woman carrying bags of groceries to your car and 4 men surround you?  If indeed this did happen at Wal Mart, I can tell you there aren't enough employees out there to secure that entire parking lot.  Your knowledge is much appreciated for some of the people that are afraid to go out alone.  And this past paragraph is not questioning you...I actually am asking for your insight on this.  Your knowledge could help someone at some point.

I've always said you can't trust those Canadiens. That is what you meant, right Steve.

Everybody wants Williston to grow but no one wants the diversity that comes with it. It's the best thing that I've seen in this town in a long time. I walk through Walmart and it's not all the same "white " people walking around.

Of course with the growth comes crime. That is an unfortunate  by product.  People just need to become more vigilant.

I have also heard the rumors but there just that. Lets try not to stereotype.

As an ex officer I have talked to the officer's in town and they are overwhelmed with calls. We need to support these guys and try to get more officers on the street.

Actually, I was looking for verification, Sigma.   When one goes to research to find out if something is true or false, one will look to boards like this to find information.  Now I have the opportunity to sift through information that has been posted and seperate what is proven to be factual from that which sounds like rumors.

Just another tool that comes along with a message board. biggrin

Look at the time!  Guess it's time for someone to post another "meaty" topic. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

this goes back to my self defense post earlier....

there were four break ins the other weekend, this will only happen more as we continue to grow here and more people flock here for opportunities,

hadn't heard either of those reports though, but good to know and be aware of that.

times are changing here people, stop leaving your doors unlocked!!!

in Fargo, I remember someones place got robbed while they were sleeping at night, and they left their doors unlocked...

Sounds like just another round of the old rumor mill.  This board typically provides something better than silly gossip.  I prefer my topics to have meat, not grease and empty calories.

I have heard things about people (non American) following women around walmart and then following them out to their car at night. One girl had her car surounded, but they left when someone drove up.
As for the hooker population, that is a new one, but that wouldnt supprise me. I do know that some of these young girls just see the money these oilfield workers are shelling out at the bars and see dollar signs.

My wife just informed me that someone from her work heard people are being approached at Wal-Mart by people of non-United States origins (read that however you want) and are being forced to hand over items just purchased.

Also, she was told Williston is starting to grow a fairly substantial hooker population due to the oil activity.

Not that I'm looking to hire a hooker. confuse  Just wonder if if this is true...that's all. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Has anyone else heard this?
