It is when I think there was better options.......but enough on this subject. I was just curious on how it all worked. Technicallly, really, non of my business. I'm just a mom of two little ones, and excited to see a park for the to go to that's not broken down like the others in this town.
Sorry not too familiar with how this works. I would just like to say that the hockey club did a nice job. Hope they made enought to get their project done.

No, I don't think it was a conspiracy or anything. Just maybe a poor decision. Thats all. I don't, for a minute, think that the hockey club "didn't deserve it". I just think that maybe the community builders was a little more deserving.
I completely agree that the park is much needed. It is awesome! I also think that there are other organizations for children in Williston that are much needed. Unfortunately, my kids are past the age of wanting to play at the park, but I can't wait to have my niece and nephew come to visit and be able to play on it. I'm getting the feeling you think that the Community Builders not getting the funding is some conspiracy or something. Why do you think they didn't get it then, if you don't believe man-power was a factor? I don't see anyone from the Community Builders calling foul because they didn't get it. I wouldn't want to be on the committee to have to choose, because there are several wonderful organizations for children in this community that are deserving of this gift. Unfortunately, only one is chosen per year.

It almost sounds like you want someone from the hockey club to apologize for being the reciepient of the funds from the community sale.
Our club did exactly what any other club in the area is allowed to do. We went through the appropriate channels and sent in an application. You make it sound like we did a bad thing by doing this.
Not to "Blow our own horn " but we have a awesome group of people in our club who are not afraid to get in there and do what we have to do to succeed. We are one of the only hockey clubs in this state that own and maintain our own building. That comes at a huge price, and I am proud to say we do it very well.
Im sorry that you think we should not have been awarded the community sale. But I can say this. As a member of the Williston Basin Skating Club we are happy it was.

I am WELL aware of the man power it takes. I also think the statement of "It has nothing to do with how many play hockey vs. how many will use the park." is completly untrue. It DOES matter. It SHOULD matter. The park is much needed! Much much needed. And I honestly do not think that the "man power" had anything to do with it. I think that is a wonderful excuse that people have come up with. All of these people involved with the hockey club, that volunteered to help, probably have young children also. Why couldn't they volunteer to help with the sale for the community builders? You put a single add in the paper or even word of mouth, they would have had more than enough people help.
Both organizations are totally worthy of receiving the benefits of this sale, in my opinion. But, the hockey club has 200 kids involved in the program. The hockey club has contact info for all of these families at their fingertips to call to get involved in helping with the sale. The Community Builders needs to do the same. They can't go in just hoping that people in the community will step up to help. Mercy takes this into consideration when choosing who will receive the funding. I don't believe it is unfair of Mercy to ask the beneficiaries of the money to provide the man-power to help run the sale. You want money, you help earn it, and the more people involved the more money there is to be raised. It has nothing to do with how many play hockey vs. how many will use the park. Please. Have you ever been involved in one of these sales to know the work that is required to pull it off? I've been involved in several of them, and it's a lot of work. The Community Builders need to apply next year. They deserve it, and I believe they will get their chance. Now that the park is coming together, people are taking notice and may be willing to step up and help.
I think there are plenty of people that would have volunteered to help with the community sale. I also think that its a poor excuse on why you guys didn't get it. I can't help but wonder how may kids play hockey, vs. how many will use that park. hmmm.....
We (Williston Community Builders) are hoping that by accomplishing the gargantuan feat of getting this playground built, the citizens of Williston will recognize us as a legitimate community worthy organization and will eventually come out and help us in future causes. That being said, we hope that those greater number of volunteers will one day allow us to apply for this grant in the future and not have the "numbers" burden holding us back.

The organization requesting the funding has to be able to provide the man-power to help Mercy prepare for and run the sale. It takes a LOT of people to do it.

We applied. But with some hesitancies. We were certainly concerned about manpower, but heck, that never stopped us before.
See? No execution today.
Glad to see the hockey club get it though. You guys have a great program going.
ps...we expect to see you guys helping out on the playground since we didn't get that grant.

The Williston Basin Skating Club put in an application this year along with some other groups I presume. When we put in the app we told the committee that with these funds we would be able to finish our downstairs flooring project. If there was to be any money over and above that we would put it towards the painting of the ceiling in the main arena of our building.
If Im not mistaken, I dont think the Community Builders applied as they didnt think they had the manpower to take on such a big project.
If thats not the case please dont execute me. That is what I think I remember hearing at our meetings.
If Im wrong I apologize.

So its been a long time since I've been on here. But I have a pending question I can't seem to get answered.
I'm curious as to how the Mercy Sale decides who gets the money they make. I would assume that Mercy itself gets a part and I know that Healthy Williston Healthy Youth also gets a share. I believe that the hockey club was also a 3rd party. I've been told that the community builders also applied? Did they get denied?
