I found it very interesting that the Williston Herald was unable to find a spot or the time to cover the wonderful reunion held Fri, Sat and Sun for the people of Appam, Alamo and the local farming community. The sentiment of the Herald was "well, we have the Fair going on and we haven't decided yet". Seems the "Boss" did not think that the fact a 125 people would celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Hartland School closing in Appam a worthy news article.
Those three days were what this prairie Heritage and fellowship is built on. We didn't need the Herald, we just thought we had a neighbor who could help.
See, we grew up with the attage that "helping your neighbor" was what made your community strong and able to handle the harsh environment the families lived it.
There was so much love and fellowship from the streets of Appam, the hills of Eagles Nest, the Dance Hall in Alamo, the Farm of Richard Holm, to the Luthern Church In Alamo.
There were AD's purchased by the committee but no offer to write a story from interviews, materials provided or interviewing the 94, 91, 87, 84 year old homesteaders children who were the foundation of this community.
