RE: COME HERE TO GET ATTACKED!!!

so....if you exclude the first month (08) and the current month which is not finished, then you see we averaged approximately 9100 hits per month.  there are about 50 people who have posted once or more, with only a handful who post a lot...including yours truly.  If you figure...at a wild guess that those 50 look at the site twice per day....then that is something like 3000 hits per month...that means....that there are 6000 hits per month of somebody else looking at what we are writing....do the math....we are impacting.

It would be even better if some of those would post something...using the guidelines you have established....

To my surprise, March was one of the busiest months on this board.  I'm attaching an image file that details the views on our site.

I see that the postings have slowed waaayyy down.  I presume some of us got busy, some of us got bored, some of us got hurt feelings, and some of us flat out have got better things to do.

BUT!....internet forums are the future. This form of communication is becoming more and more the norm whether in personal life, business, pleasure, or simple searches for information of all sorts.  We MUST get on board with this resource in our community of interests.

I love Williston....I have lived here since 1969, except for a couple of years when our family moved to Casper, Wyoming; That's 40 years, kids.  My sons were born here, and they call Williston home as well. My three grandchildren live here, and this is their future...

At times, I also hate this town....metaphorically speaking. So many of us cannot accept fresh ideas, or are not open to logical concepts.  We need to change that, on so many levels.

Sometimes it seems like our community, for every step forward we take, we then take two backwards.  On a regular basis, we come up a day late and a dollar short.
I say we, collectively, and am not pointing fingers.

Steve, I asked some time back for your data on hits, and posts on this page, but never got an answer. I ask that again, if it's available, because I think it is pertinent to the discussion.  More and more people are reading this page, whatever their motivation might be, and whether or not they choose to post.  We are making a difference simply by participating.  If people actually knew how many other people are looking at this site, they might actually make a comment or two.

Jeremy, I don't know if you are still reading the page, but I bet dollars to donuts somebody you know is, and they will tell you I am writing this post. Come back!.

Shayla, you might be a rabble rouser, but you are passionate.  Your posts are a breath of fresh air.  Write something.

Tommy (Jib).  You make a perfect Devil's Advocate.  Keep posting.

Kingfish...I know you.  You need to quit lurking and put something out there. I got your back.

Larry Larsen, you and I are 180 degrees apart in most things, but I would be honored to joust with you on this page. If you came, many of your admirers might chime in with their own spin. It would be fantabulous.  The Herald tries, but their page is primitive...

..there are so many people out there that can contribute, so please do so.

Friends, if you are still with me, please bear it for a few more lines.

Humans tend to congregate with like-minded peoples.  They simply tend to re-inforce to each other in their already commonly held ideas.  If you go out for coffee, or Happy Hour, or after church fellowship meetings, or whatever.....is their ever any controversy or disagreement?  Not much I bet. It's all about the other guys shortcomings, and I'm as guilty as anyone. But at least I try.

A page like this is a perfect forum.  You can think out your response before you answer, and you can use the English language to present many diversified spins on the same subject.

It doesn't matter if you lean left or right, if you are short or tall, if you are cross-eyed or your hair looks funny. You can make a difference.

Let's us have at it.....eh?

Well written, Ryan.  I know you have no qualms with telling anyone how you feel.  And it's great that you posted with your name.  Very much appreciated.

You've been visiting this board for quite some time, I haven't moderated this board more than 2 times in over a year.  I'd say I've done pretty well letting people speak their mind.  But I do know when tones and discussions can turn to the point where we could lose readers due to the animosity during the discussion I have to step in.

Considering this discussion derived from an honest post in a seperate thread, I felt the need to nip this one in the bud.

You and I had some heated political discussions in the ol' Love It truck so I know you have thick enough skin to take the heat.  Not everyone has that ability.  I let this last one go just about to the edge so I figured it had to be put to an end.

I respect that you came out from behind the moniker.  Now, do I refer to you still as bohdan?  Or are you slappy again?  biggrin.gif

I never attacked Jeremy personally.  But if your going to have a position like this you have to develop thick skin.I have no problem expressing my complaints with P&R. I have in the past and will continue to do so.

I agree with you Steve that this subject has gotten out of hand considering it started with a mural.

I also agree that it is cowardly to call someone out when there are only a few that use their names.

I wasn't calling Jeremy out but I thought this was a forum to discuss what is on your mind. Even when people get a little fired up. To delete or ban someone from your site would be defeating the purpose of it.

I have to put my foot down on this.  Jeremy made a comment about a mural people.  How does it escalate to this?  I don't like to moderate on this message board but I feel there's been some injustice done here on several levels.

Number one, attacking a persons political views is one thing.  In my book, fairly harmless.  We could do a better job of discussing these things far more tactfully.  But to attack how a person does their job, and to use a message board to do so is borderline cowardly.

But, this next point is what makes it completely cowardly.  You guys are doing it with fake names.  There's no honor in this.  If you have issues with the way Jeremy or anyone, anywhere does their job, I would suggest letting them know personally.

I have had discussions with Jeremy about things I didn't think were running quite right before, but I've also let Jeremy know when I think he's done a very good job as well.   This was done either at the fields or on the phone...not on the message board.  And had I done it on the message board, at least my name would have been by it.

So please, please discontinue the negativity on this site.  It is not healthy for the board and will drive viewers/posters away.

The next reply or comment defending your right to attack will be deleted and subject to banning.

Peace, serenity, and tranquility to all!!!!

Jeremy,  quit crying about it. Your the head of a department that is going to take it's share of complaints. You have to expect to be the person those complaints go to. Sadly that is part of your job.

On the other hand I don't feel that it is 100% Jeremy's fault for the poor job that the parks and rec is doing. P&R has always done the bare minimum when it comes to youth. From a poorly run baseball progam (which with the help of parents is getting better) to a joke of a youth basketball program.  4 weekends for kids basketball for an hour with Jeremy as the coach.  I'm not coaching material but either is Jeremy. If the P&R would compensate a little better maybe they could hire a coach for these things and let Jeremy do the administrative things.

This P&R would be the same with or without Jeremy. I think he tries but he inherited a problem that started a long time before him. So of you may remember when Cory was up there. I like Cory but it was the same way. Poorly run.

ahem.....well I was there when Cory was, at least for a good portion of it, and I don't think you can blame Cory for any particular thing.   I was also there when Jeremy first came on board....kinda...Everyone has their own idea of how things should be, and where the lions share of the moolah goes....so how manipulative certain factions can be, dictates these things...it is very interesting to see what goes on in the inside...  I think I was fairminded enough and have my own spin on a lot of that....while others disagreed.....that's the way of life....it serves no purpose to continue to dwell on what coulda woulda shoulda been.....lets move on.

I have had and will continue to have my own disagreements...and intensive ones at that...with many of the decisions of WP&R, but I think that the greater proportion of people who take part in civil service (including WP&R) have, or at least think they have, the interests of the majority at heart....true or not.  If you want to see change, then take part...simple as that....

I do agree that jeremy inherited the previous burdens...and don't think he deserves to be the primary whipping boy.  Neither does Darin....if you don't like the way things are going, get involved and get active....the buck stops at the top.... this oughta open the discussion up a little...

Jeremy..don't go.  the internet is still going to be the mode of communication of the future...whether or not you or I like it.  the thought processes do not always translate well the first time you say something....whether pro or con. I enjoy the going back and forth.  It is a lesson in patience....and anyone of character has the chance to change their mind, and or apologize if they are wrong about something. I know, I have did it...will continue to do it.

I only read the mural thingy thread shortly after I read your sayanora note....and frankly,  although I went to UND Williston, I did not have a particular affinity for the mural either, but I know most of the history around the mural and the people and the concepts...and I don't think it is a big deal to keep it....and I don't really think it would be a big deal to let it go...I say let the alumni decide.

of course on the other hand...my picture is not painted on the wall and if it was, I most likely would have a pitchfork in my hand and heating the tar and plucking feathers and trying to pry up a piece of railroad tie to help Joe McCann out of town in the good old Williston way....

Now Shayla....you know this is tongue in cheek so don't put on the boxing gloves and come after me....you are so much like my little sister it is scary....

I for one guess I feel lucky that I am totally in the dark about some subjects.  But also feel lucky we are all so far still dry and NOT looking at icey flood water crawling into our homes.  There will always be subjects that people will disagree on and some that are personal to them.  But just feel blessed you are yours are still safe in a very bad situation that faces the other side of this State.

Unfortunate, Jeremy.  However, I understand.  But do understand you are always welcomed back.  If you see a thread at some point, like the Phish thread, that is so far off topic feel free to continue.

Thanks for your participation.

I made a comment about a mural.  Sometimes change is hard and disappointing, but sometimes it is ok and you just have to accept it.  Progress can be good.

In response ...

I was personally attack and it was implied that I am gaining money in an unethical way.

I have stated before that people do not post here because they get attacked.

I am now one of those people.

I will never write another word on this site.
