I agree that it should be possible to post an opposing point of view without attacking anyone for their views.  I think we all want to hear more than one point of view on controversial subjects, as it gives us an opportunity to expand our own way of thinking.

I never ment anybody on this message board has ever named called.  I ment my statement as in a general sense.  I appoligize.  I should have been more clear.  But in "general"...sometimes when I state my views on political subjects...I feel like Kramer on Seinfeld, when he was walking for the AIDS benefit only he didnt want to ware the ribbon and others beat him up because he refused.  LOL.  smile

I'm all for a discussion, it's always great to talk things over with someone that has a different viewpoint than myself. Other views always get me to think a little bit more, whether it's thinking more towards my own views or adopting some of the spice from the other individual. I'll do my best to root through my pro-environmental, firearm-limiting, immigrant-allowing, flag-burning, etc. ideals and post one up. I'd prefer the topic to have some relevance to western ND, but I'm game for about anything.

No way, Randy.  I am sick and tried of being called names for being a Republican.  I have been called a Kool-aid drinker (refering to the Jim Jones sucide back in the 70's), a war monger,  an oil drunk, a tree bleeder, a animal killer...the list goes on...   And all because I dont agree with the politics of the extrem Democrats or Liberals.  There is no rational reason to rationalize with unreasonable people.  Everyone screams for freedom of speech...but then condemn Republicans or Christians for speaking our minds too.  NO...I will show the same respect for Obama that the liberals showed for Bush.

Odd eh?

Listen...listen closely.....did you hear that?  It was the sound of my jaw hitting the floor....  that IS Odd.

and really, I think he would make a good contributor to this page as he definitely has a wealth of knowledge.  The trick to this whole thing is to not attack each other (moderate sarcasm and black humor are acceptable, particularly the kind where they cannot be sure you were actually being sarcastic or were using black humor), not lose your cool, and to not lose your poise, and if you do, and I don't think any of us are immune to that possibility....man up...and say sorry, I shouldn't have lost it...can I try again to persuade you my position is more logical than your position?

...and keep it civil....I relish that kind of dialogue.

It is interesting to watch people who cannot refute the logic of your comments go ballistic and / or fall apart.   Of course, when it is over it should be over, and you should still at least be able to have civil discourse.

They have been discussing put the Quantamo Bay prisoners on Alcatraz island in California.   Needless to say Palosi blew a cork.   Not in her back yard....but maybe North Dakota  since we don't count and hardly anyone lives here anyway except Buffalo.disbelief   (the last part about ND I just made up)

I had a feeling someone would ask.  These are my answers, PAR, I'm glad you asked and I am thankful for your participation.

My facts to support my claims lay in the SNL vault from when Franken was on.  At one point he impersonated God and inferred that even God used foul language...specifically using the word Bull$#!+.   This particular list of insults and vulgarity goes on and on so I'll spare the readers and let them find out themselves.  It's not difficult to find.

What I know about Frankens opponent is that he is far more level headed than Franken which is what our founding fathers wanted from their Senators...not satirical comedians.  I did not like the way he started his campain with all of the attack ads, but I have to also give him credit for realizing this was going on and pulling the negative ads.  I'm not real fond of the fact that I believe Coleman jumped the Democrat ship because of aspirations to someday be President.  I believe he was supported by "Big Money" republicans who gave him the Senate seat, however he proved he can work with Democrats by passing the Fostering Adoption to Further Student Achievement Act along with a Democrat who's name escapes me.

PAR, to answer your final and most important question....yes, I think I am better than the "biased liberal media".   I've given credit where credit is due with Reagan, with Bush Sr., with Clinton and with Bush Jr.  I've also had no problem pointing out what I feel were their weak points. I've even found a positive with Obama should he follow through with one particular plan he has proposed for economic stimulus.  Good luck getting anything like that out of Olbermann, Matthews, et. al, or even guys like Letterman or Conan.  I've picked on Rush, I've picked on Hannity, I've even picked on O'Relly.

What else would you like to know?

Thanks again, PAR.

I have a very good topic in mind for a debate.  Shall I start it?

What we've got here....is failure to communicate.  I have an idea....let's make a challenge to debate-  cons vers libs....

I think we have at least two in-house democratic leaning, if not dyed-in- the-wool liberals, in Jib and Rec Guy.  I encourage Jib to recruit Mr. Larry Larsen as either a source or collaborator. although I think the greater majority of the membership are probably much more conservative leaning, his considerable talents would help to level the playing field.

We never seem to actually get down to the brass tacks of logical deduction to determine an answer because most people either change the subject or start attacking the other person when a debate is not going their way.

I propose that Jib pick a specific incident or party line position to debate, and that Steve P pick one. It doesn't matter as long as it relates to politics in our time which would obviously be one of the current or recent administrations.

Then we restrict ourselves to those two topic on the specific thread and agree not to digress from those topics. It would, I think, be a grand experiment, and would force many of the readers to actutally do some homework.

????
Whatcha think

Well, I have to say then, Jeremy, we agree on the all politicians thing.  In fact, I bet Bush would agree with you (he already has as he admitted these things in his final speech). I agree with you that Clinton had good and bad policies as well as Bush.  Again, initially I didn't see that final remark and it threw me off guard a little. smile.gif

My guess is that we'll be saying the same thing about Obama when his term is done.

I appreciate your openness and honesty on the subject.

Yes, all polititions.  Clinton, Bush, all of them are to blame.

And why do you think I am such a Bush Hater and Clinton Lover?

I think Bush could have done a lot of things better, I also think Clinton could have done a lot of things better.

Yes I wanted Obama over McCain, but my first Choice was Ron Paul (Republican)

I vote for who I think is the best person/people for the job.

Well, first of all, we have the option of tuning off Rush.

The state of Minnesota has very possibly voted in a Senator who's comedy has been more vile and mean spirited than most and has mocked and made Christians the butt of his jokes on more occassions than not.  A guy that was as rude and vulgar as any comic out there.  Bottom line, Franken is and always has been a JOKE.  His debates rely on satire.  The only way he knows how to debate anyone...including the likes of Limbaugh and Ann Coulter...is to insult them.  I'd rather have "The Body" representing my state than this clown. Even other Democrat Senators tried blocking his nomination.

Does MN really want a guy like this signing treaties, conducting possible impeachment trials, and giving the President advice?

Yes, Limbaugh has been hypocritical, much like many political journalists.  But we're talking about a Senatorial seat going to a jokester.  And we can't tune THAT off.

THAT'S how I'll remember G.W.B....oh wait...what were we talking about?.winkbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Please, Jeremy.  Don't tell me your gonna fall in line with this.  $2.3 Trillion was never....NEVER declared missing.  $2.3 Trillion IN TRANSACTIONS were declared missing.

Oh, and while we’re at it, there was a defense audit in 1999 that found that $ 2.3 trillion of balances and such were not sufficiently documented.  Last time I checked, CLINTON was president in 1999.

It's all right here.  http://911myths.com/html/rumsfeld__9_11_and__2_3_trilli.html

I didn't see the small print below about blaming all polititians.  Does that include Clinton?

Educated?  Ricky?  Where are the people supposed to get their education from?  Without actually pulling out voting records people will never recieve unbiased information.  I hate to keep beating on the liberal biased media drum....ok, nevermind, I don't hate to do that because I actually have come to dislike the national media.  This inauguration is a prime example of how slanted the media in this country has become and how they are brainwashing Americans.  Check the following...

Fair and Balanced headlines from 4 years ago....

Headlines On This Date 4 Years Ago:

Republicans spending $42 million on inauguration while troops Die in unarmored Humvees"

"Bush extravagance exceeds any reason during tough economic times"

"Fat cats get their $42 million inauguration party, Ordinary Americans get the shaft"

Headlines Today:

"Historic Obama Inauguration will cost only $120 million"

"Obama Spends $120 million on inauguration; America Needs A Big Party"

"Everyman Obama shows America how to celebrate"

"Citibank executives contribute $8 million to Obama Inauguration"

And just a point to note...the costs have risen to $160 Million.

Jeremy, obviously we've already seen these lists that you considered posting. My point was that these are things you'll never see.  Honestly the liberal media has become so hateful and spiteful and has taken on an extreme agenda of putting the candidate OF THEIR CHOICE, not mine, not necessarly yours, not the American people, but the media's choice of who they wanted as President.  If you don't believe me, just ask Hillary Clinton.

Here's a question. Does the president have ultimate power to change the US? Is the survival, success and future of the United states directly dependent on the actions of one person or did our "forefathers" have enough foresight to implement checks and balances i.e. seperate branches of govt? Here's another question; at what point did President Bush directly initiate legislation allowing failed business practices (Freddy Mac, Fanny Mae and many more) to do what they did? Or was it Congress? If so, who was the majority in Congress? How about oil... Did President Bush drive the price of oil up or was it purely a problem of "Speculators" who were probably both Democrat and Republican? How about the war? Was President Bush solely responsible for taking us to Iraq or did a majority of Congress (Democrat and Republican) back that decision based on the same information President Bush had available to himself?

Everyone is responsible for their own actions. There are a number of things I think that Bush could have done differently. The war in Iraq? He should have done it 100%. He could have went door to door and been a lot more physical. It would have ticked off the liberals but we'd have been out of there by now. I think he tried to pacify the left wing by "half assedly" approaching things. But again, is that his actions or is that the general's on the ground giving him info?

People tend to become bias over one issue. They may agree with a lot that Bush has done (if they knew what he's done) but they refuse to educate themselves because they only focus on one thing. What's the phrase, throwing the baby out with the bathwater... President Obama has a few key issues I absolutely disagree with. Am I going to sit here and complain about the way he says he's going to handle those issues or am I going to judge him on his overall picture? Hopefully I can look at everything he does and make a decision based on that.

I had created a list of all of the "bad" things that GW did.  But I changed my mind, I am not going to post it all.  The bottom line why I believe that history will not be kind to GW...

GW presidency did not start well.  The country was very divided after the Bush/Gore election.  Then 9/11 happened.  The country was the most united it had been in my lifetime and probably the most united it had been since Pearl Harbor (Tragedy brings us togeather, deaths in families, natural disasters, or attacks on our country).  Bush had every oppertunity to be one of our nations greatest leaders of all time. But that did not happen.  Instead our nation is in a terrible economic crisis and we are in a war that:
1. Much of the nation does not agree with
2. Much of the nation does not even know why we are there
3. Nobody seems to know if we are accomplishing anything

I am a sports nut...
When coaches leave a job many of them say "my goal was to leave the program in better shape then when I got here"  I feel the same way about my job.  Right now I believe that the Nation is in worse shape then when GW took office.

How about this? Here are some of the things Bush did that people will never recognize him for due to their pure hatred for another human being.

1. Boosted aid to Africa threefold
2. Was integral in preventing a nuclear war between India and Pakistan
3. Convinced Libya to give up WMD program and renounce terrorism.
4. Made India a strategic ally.
5. Kept a middle course when dealing with China, although disagreeing with human rights and labor rights issues.
6. Done VERY WELL preventing another 9/11.
7. Challenged his own party on harmful ag subsidies while pushing free trade.
8. Completely changed the immigration reform debate challenging both parties to re-think their positions bringing both parties closer together on the issue.
9. Declared first federal ban on racial profiling.
10. Appointed the first non-white attorney general thus integrating the executive branch.

And the list goes on.  But you'll never here any of these from the likes of Olbermann, Dobbs, Chris Matthews, etc....

I have to agree with Ricky on this one.  I could actually make a video showing all of the bad passes Joe Montana made in his career and make him look like one of the worst to ever play the game.  This video by Olbermann is no different than the crap Michael Moore puts out there.  It's called "spin" and the media are the nastiest players when it comes to this.

Who have American's lost respect from? And how did the citzens of America directly cause this loss of respect?

... just looking for some clarification.

I will try this again.. problems with computer.  Clintons - Monica - Hilerary not knowing anything.. Now don't get me wrong I voted for him.  The day he pointed his finger and Lied is the day I turned my back.. Every one knew is was doing something - Hilerary went on TV and Said Consperisey (sp)  Then he told the Truth - Everyone knew why not Hilerary..Now she wanted to be President.  Where was her head.

Bush was elected not just once but twice.  All you heard was he's not my President and Hollywood and Music People would go to other Countries and just TRASH President Bush.  Yesterday in DC the whole Crowd BOOED not only President Bush but Laura Bush. That was the day I quite supporting movie stars and Any person who Trashed our President and America.

I am simplifying this.

Now President Obama is elected - all the Cramp on internet of little children say President Bush don't let the door hit you in the Butt.  And Parents are proud of this.  Now all of a sudden we are all Americans and finally we should be Proud.    Like I say no person - newscaster who wants ratings- and the Democrates that were going to change things 2 years ago in Pelosi and Reid  who also trash Bush- and were in charge the LAST 2 Years - Ecomomy  -  And if you listen to BBC - Things that Canadians said when they came here - they also trashed Bush.   Sorry I never let them get away with that.  I am an American and President Bush was my President  and now President Obama is my President, although I did not vote for him.

It makes me feel pretty fantastic to see that so many people made the pilgrimage to DC just to be there, and millions more acroos the nation (and world) tuned in via TV/internet just to be apart of it all.

I still think the best thing that can come about the new administration is to rally the American citizens again, and I think the turn out yesterday was a damn good start. Obama has shown time and time again that he can rally the "troops", say some inspirational words, and leave millions with a re-newed feeling of being proud to be an American.

I have Always been proud to be an American.  No Person Nor President could ever take that from me.  And I never allow another Country or News Caster to tell me I should  be proud or ashamed.  But the junk that they are putting out without truth and Facts about President Bush is Wrong. President Bush should have had Respect as President Obama has from me.  Although I did not Vote for him.  He is my President.  Something alot of Americans have lost.   That does not mean to not pay attention and ask questions.  But you don't Trash People unless you have the truth and facts to PROVE it.   American's have lost alot respect, not because our President,  because of themselves and quite Frankly don't deserve it.

Inspirational

No matter which side of the line you fall on, I thnk everyone can agree that the turn out for the inagural events yesterday is inspirational to say the least. It makes me feel pretty fantastic to see that so many people made the pilgrimage to DC just to be there, and millions more acroos the nation (and world) tuned in via TV/internet just to be apart of it all.

RE: Remeber G.W.B.

I was thinking about GWB in 8 minutes... Wow, 8 years in 8 minutes. If someone wanted to pick everything bad out of my life with a fine tooth comb, including things that are speculation, not fact, over the last eight years and put them into 8 minutes..... They could probably come up with a pretty entertaining video. I would imagine that would be the same for us all. Just a thought.

I agree Clinton should have been more cordial (spelling?) to Bush, but I understand (not that it is an excuse) there was some hard feelings that the Dems Felt the Election was stolen from them.

While we might disagree on the history part, there's truth to the rest of it.
Bottom line, it is done and over, we have a new President, and I think most of us are trying to come together somehow, which we usually tend to do as a country at crunch time....why not let President Bush ride off into the Texas sunset with a good taste in his mouth as to what good he tried to do during his terms, and which largely, I think he accomplished, instead of continuously attacking him as some are trying to do?

Throughout this whole transition process, up to, and including the inauguration, the Obamas actually reciprocated the graciousness which George and Barbara Bush had showed them....so I think that should set the standard for everyone else.

I don't know who Olbermann is, but I am sick to death of Bush bashing and the Booing today during the inauguration (sp) of Bush and the First Lady.  Now all of a sudden - everyone is told - I hope you are willing to work with President Obama and respect him.  My Gosh - He is not God. - He is a Good Man and is now our President and of course we should treat him as such.   But I am ashamed of every sick Democrate that treated President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush awful and ashamed of how they treated them  today and including Vice President Cheney and his Wife.  Thank God President and Michelle Obama treated them with Grace and Respect they deserved.  (And too dang bad the Clintons didn't do the same when the Bush's were elected)

This may be hard to believe, coming from a conservative leaning individual like yours truly, but so far, I think that President Obama is doing things correctly...what is ironic is he is taking more and more of the same positions Dubya did...maybe the things he is privy to in his new role as Commander in Chief, are making him see the light.

I also firmly believe  that history will be much kinder to George Bush than all the screaming radical idiots who are reveling in their "triumph" seem to expect.  Many Polls show that even at this point, the majority of the people...even the Dems, believe that Pres Bush is fundamentally a good man.

To answer your question, Jeremy....no.  The only time cold hard facts no one else is privvy to ever come out right away is if the President ends up in impeachment hearings for things like "sexual relations". smile.gif  Otherwise, 10 or so years down the road we may start hearing those stories about life in the Whitehouse and stuff like that.

But "armchair President-ing" will forever reign supreme for the common folk.

And I agree with you also that Killborn was a riot.  He and Bermann always made high-lights exciting for me.

I agree with Steve, but is everybody going to have the same attitude with Obama?  If you do not agree with something Obama does are you going to think to your self that I do not have all of the facts that the president does.

I even more so agree that Olberman should go back to "the Center", him and Patrick made that show huge.  Although my favorite was Craig Kilborn (not sure how to spell) he made me laugh.  I remember when Pooh Richardson was on a hot streak when he was with the Clippers.  He had the best Nick Names  "The Cold and Pooh Season"  or "Pooh, Pooh, Pachew" take from the Beatles "I am the Walrus".  I believe it was Kilborn who also said "You are experiencing the awesome power of Sportscenter"  That will always stick with me.

I would like to think people would remember how they felt in 2001.  Olbermann acts as though being President is a simple task.
Answers to the difficult situations Bush was presented with when he first became President are always much easier in hindsight to those of us who don't know all of the classified information the President is privvy to.

I wish Olbermann would go back to ESPN.  He didn't seem so hateful then as he does now.

I agree Oberman is biased, but isn't everybody.  Oberman may be more biased then others, but is what he is saying true?

If I'm not mistaken, Olbermann was yanked from his anchor position by his own company/network due to his obvious bias... I tend to take things from biased people with a grain of salt whether it's a liberal or conservative point of view....
