I am personally and professionally excited about the dog park project. The dog park will be located south west of the Keel Boat. It will be a fenced in area. The dogs do not have to be on a leash. That is the point, to give dogs a place to run free.
I for one would love to see a dog park, but then again Im one of those people that think of my dog as family & i think it would be an excellent asset to our community! I would definately have to lease my dog, when she sees how much fun all the other dogs are having she'll never want to leave
In Eugene, although is has been 4 years ago, we kept our dogs on leashes. But other people just were playing frisbe and throwing a ball. I have little dogs, so I wasn't comfortable letting them run with the bigger ones. Although other people did. My husband just told me that they were supposed to be leashed. But bring your pooper scoopers.
I'm guessing there HAS to be rules including keeping dogs on leashes. If a dog is not leashed at this park I'm assuming the park owner takes on the liability of any dog attacks against humans. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So explain to me how this all works. Do dogs have to be on leashes? What happens if a dog fight happens? (for some reasons the Peoples Court music is playing in my head HA) Oh, and I know what your saying, I love my dog too, I just don't get it...... durrrr on my part I guess.
Dog Parks are great especially for travelers. When we traveled to Vegas to see family - We stopped at many dog parks to let them blow off steam from being couped up in our car. We certainly appreciated them along the way. Also get to meet alot of other travelers from many areas.
I personally think it's a great idea. Contrary to your opinion, there are people that have nothing but their pets. No family, few friends. So their dogs are their family and friends. And those that have a dog or dogs grow very close to them. Losing a dog that has been in your family for any length of time can be almost as difficult as losing a parent or sibling.
The idea of a dog park goes beyond just people spending too much time with their pets. This also becomes an attraction to Williston. This helps our quality of life.
I can only ask that you hold judgement until you see the final product. This project was proposed to me as a Leadership Williston project and after discussing this with the LW student I feel this will be a great addition to Williston and I'm completely on board with it.
Just wait...you'll see.
And the park you speak of that we can take our kids to...that one is going to happen too.

Sigh...just one more example of people loving there pets more than their neighbors. Dog parks are stupid if you ask me!! Like a dog needs a park. Get off your butt and walk your dog...your dog doesn't need a park. ITs A DOG!!! Like your dog cares where he pees!!! I dont care how much you love or think how smart your dog is....he/she still sniffs another dogs butt and eats cat poop. LETS give them a PARK!!! OH, for stupid. Why not a cat park too.... not to mention, hamsters, birds, snakes.....ect...all the other pets people have. Hey, I know...why not build a beautiful park where we can take our elderly and they can see kids playing, and dogs being walked? But noooo wayyyyy....the old belong in lobby of the Nursing Home. Sigh....
