RE: Anyone have any great suggestions for books to read?

Most of the Books I have read are still in my tack shack.  Waiting for weather to break to get out there.. I need my Christmas Tree from my mom anyway.. After freezing in the barn I run for my electric blanket.biggrin

OH yes, by all means.  Can't believe how spendy books are now days.  Sheesh.  But our local Library is limitid on how much it can hold.  I like to walk and listen to books on tape or CD...but I see the selection has gone from nil to close no new ones.  But, book trade is something we really could do.  smile

SKM trading books is a great idea.  The books are very expensive. Only thing is, is that if we trade, names in books and they have to be returned. smile

hummmmmmm, I've never read the Catcher and the Rye.  I'm very in curious now.  I have heard about it...but  what is it actually about?
We should have a book exchange program...You loan me Catcher in the Rye and I'll loan you ummmm,  Uncle Tom's Cabin.  Have you read that? Oh its a great book!!  Heartbreaking but great!!! I buy all my books from second hand used book stores, or at rummage sales... never know what book you will find. smile

Ps...if Catcher in the Rye is that hard to comprehend, don't they have Cliffs Notes for that book?  Lord knows I need them for anything Shakespher wrote.  (Or how ever you spell his name.)

No Jib I haven't.  I don't find reading something some old hippy wrote worth while.  Jib, you and I will never agree on somethings. And thats ok, I don't imagen you've read the Spin Zone or any other book Bill O'Reilly has written. Or listen to Rush Limbaugh.  Lets not forget Fredrick Niechie, who wrote about a super human and not all people are equal.  Look where Adolf Hitler took that and ran with it.  I believe a person has to be very picky on the things you read and believe.  Seeds are planted very easily and for some reason, the negative seeds spread wider and faster.  So, Jib you'll never change my thinking and I'll never change yours...but we can keep each other laughing. Believe it or not, I like to hear what you have to say.  I may never agree, but I still like to hear your opinion.  smile

P.S.   Jib I just found one thing we agree on,  To Kill a Mocking Bird is a Great Book!!!

Thank you too Jibslider. That's what is nice about looking at these books on line. Sometimes on the ole farm, you have to find your own entertainment.wink

A Sand County Almanac would be a great read for you then, the author is writing about rural Wisconsin.

My favorite books of all time:

Walden by Henry David Thoreau
A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold
Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey
The Monkey Wrench Gang by Edward Abbey

Into Thin Air by John Krakauer
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
On the Road by Jack Kerouac

ANYTHING by Kurt Vonnegut
ANYTHING by Hunter S. Thompson (especially Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas)

If you want more info about the books, just look up a description on Amazon.com or your favorite online bookstore. The first set of books I list are environmental books and are excellent stepping stones into environmental literature, especially "A Sand Country Almanac".... READ IT!!smile

Thank you  - went to a few book stores today and could not find anything, except for DW Groethe's book of Western Poetry - the West River Waltz. That was fun to find especially since he lives in Bainville but is from Williston. Thanks again.

flags of our Fathers

Flags of our Fathers is an outstanding series of stories from the time the six men who raised the flag at Iwo Jima enlisted, thier training, and the landing and subsequent struggle, its an awazing look at the world our Fathers, Uncles endured during one of the most devastating battles of world war II..  I could not put it down and the way James Bradley portrayed the Men, the War, the World, the Emotion; you become engulfed.  The book is better than the movie, seems they always are.  God bless our Military men and woman and thier families.

ohhhhh Vko you  would love a book titled The PoisonWood Bible.  Its about a family of missionarys who move to the Congo in Africa.  The Minister has all girls (five) I think and they all have their own chapters that they write and one daughter writes everything backwards.  It really is a great read.  I have the same problem with numbers, but not really the same thing I don't think.  I read like 179 and then write 197,  drives me crazy.  Merry Christmas, Hun!! smile

Ps....is that the cutest picture ever!!?  Cute little pup!!!

They tell me it is a great little book  - easy read.  Have to wait for all them to read it before they send it to me.  Any good books that people read and suggest would be appreicated. (sp)  I am very dyslectic so I just have to type close my eyes and hope it comes out right.  Oh well.no   Thanks/
