People love something to complain about, and gas/oil price is a double edged sword in Williston. It doesn't matter what happens with the price of oil, people in Williston will always complain about it.
Gas prices are rising... it costs me $60 to fill up my tank...groan, moan, complain.

This truly was not supposed to be any political question. Sorry it ended up to be one. SKM we are not selling our minerals... they were supposed to be leased. The lease was pulled. That was my first sign that Oil Companies really don't know which way to jump in "Williston". Except where they have found oil and off set. I most likely am wrong about this. I just wanted to know if anyone actually knew and if they are not doing leasing or new drilling, plugging wells again, etc. It was just to be a simple question - hoping that people that worked in and around the Oil Business knew something. Second of all, Obama has never advocated the stoppage of drilling for oil. It would be insane to think that the US and the world could stop their dependence on oil as an energy source and construction material on January 20, 2009... let alone January 2012. President-elect Obama as well as just about everyone on this planet (except probably Dick Cheney), is advocating for us all to reduce our dependency on petroleum. He's all for drilling in ANWR as well as in Stanley, ND during this transition period that began years ago. He has not advocated to have a knee-jerk reaction and open up further off shore drilling. There needs to be some sort of assessment and study done before that every happens. The Pacific and Atlantic coasts of our nation have a ton of freight traffic and are sensitive ecosystems, and you cannot just throw up your arms at Monterey Bay and shout, "Drill baby drill!"
Thirdly, J. Pickens is an intelligent businessman, a man labelled as an oil tycoon. Let me say something again, he's an intelligent man. He's also trying to set up his future by re-branding himself as not only an oil tycoon, but as an energy tycoon. He knows that the US has been in a transition period, looking for alternative energy sources. He knows that congress has already passed legislation to allow for more tax breaks for alternative energy sources. He knows that the new congress and the new president will probably decrease the tax incentives for oil in the upcoming years and redistribute those incentives towards alternative energy sources as well as research for alternative energy. J. Boone Pickens understands how to market his new brand towards the American public.. he is an intelligent man.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, and please, show proof of it. But I was aware that Obama wanted to reduce the oil from overseas. I think his plan dealt wih cutting down getting oil from "his bros from the middle east". And If that is cut down, wouldn't they have to drill MORE in the US? I also believe that a direct quote from Obama was that the drilling would not "stop". We , in the bakken, sit on one of the worlds biggest oil producers. (snopes.com) Why is everyone so worried? Right now, Williston has it better than anyone else in the US. Everyone else has a TERRIBLE unemployment rate because they can't find jobs. Where, in williston, we have more jobs that what we can fill. We have houses going up everyday. Where as in other parts, they have vacant houses everywhere.
How about instead of B***** about everything. We look at the good in Obama, because he's not going away.
And BTW......what does politics have to do with us becomming a "godless" nation? I'll never understand that statement. And its not the first time I've heard it. Had an offer for our minerals but they pulled it off the table when oil dropped.. also heard that they are stacking rigs...Just was hoping other people around town knew something. Thank you so much.
