Yes, no wonder people do not think for themselves...been too easy to catch information on whatever TV Station during lunch - breaks - etc. Just had that little conversation with my Oregon son. Also situations in people's community really makes a person to have to have a little backbone... And the email's are flying in my son's area... He then sends them to me... Told him to actually study people's record and do not just make your decisions on tidbits...

Believe it or not, I had that EXACT same conversation with my North Dakota dad.

What a great debate though. I thought Sarah did a great job. I really don't understand how CNN can claim that Biden won that debate. Is it just me who thought Sarah Palin won it hands down? It's really quite funny how CNN voted Joe Biden winning the debate yet Fox viewers had Sarah winning the debate. It just shows how we all have our own opinions especially to the TV networks we watch.
Wait, all this time I've been singing the song wrong? "I can see culearly now, the rain is gone."

Thank you Shayla - will check out the book, too. P.S. Just saw a clip about Biden giving a speech and was introducing a person " He told him to Stand- up as Biden was introducing (The person was in a Wheel chair) Biden says "What am I talkin about". you can't. Oh my Gosh....
Vko, they weren't major questions. They were asked questons like what is your fav movie, Palin listed Hoosers and Rudy. Biden listed Chariots of Fire. Who gives a crap, What movies they like? I do think that Palin rocked Biden's world tonight! She was strong and stood her ground, Biden on the the other hand, stammerd through the whole debate. AND how can anyone not laugh at Biden and his comments on Israel!...Gee what country is north of Israel? DUHHHH. AND, how may times did Biden use the word "Fundamental"! It was driving me crazy. I lost track. If you really want to "know" who Obama is, I suggest reading the book titled "Obama Nation". If that doesn't scare you NOTHING will. OHHHHH, and in closing...glad that big vain of Biden's did pop!! Wow!!
I have missed Sarah Palin's interview's with Katie Courtic... am watching Vice President debates.. It would be good to hear from anyone that caught both and their thoughts.
I need to say a great big thank you to Trahrah for that post. TR was my fav president. I love his motto, "speak gently but carry a big stick". I feel honored that you are teaching our youth my son included. Never "cowdown" to those that think they know better. YOU ROCK!!! YOU MAKE ME PROUD!!
She has been so far the only one that has mentioned to not reinstall the death tax. That is suppose to come back (I think) 2010. I can't remember but Senator Dorgan wants to keep it but try and put the amounts up and to try keep the family farms intact. The way it was written before President Bush got in would have wiped out our family farm.
I received this email today and thought it was interesting"food for thought". That's all.... just wanted to share.....
Who Am I ?
I am under 45 years old,
I love the outdoors,
I hunt and fish,
I am a Republican reformer,
I have taken on the Republican Party establishment,
I have many children,
I have a spot on the national ticket as vice president with less than two years in the governor's office.
Have you ever heard of me before now?
I am Teddy Roosevelt.
...and as I recall reading, when he was nominated to be McKinley's Vice President there was the hue and cry about that "cowboy being only one heartbeat away from the presidency!" Well, McKinley got assassinated, TR took over, and things didn't fall all apart, now did they?
I agree with Steve... I can't wait to vote to now. Can i just put this out there...why is it HER responsiblity to care for the children? I belive her husband is just as capable as she is. I feel all liberals should rally for Palin, not against. Equal rights. Or does that just pertain to color of skin.... see for me, I could careless that Obama is black or whatever...I disagree with his politics. Now, if anyone disagreees with Palins politics...that is fine...but to bring up her children, isnt that just lowballing? She brought that baby into the world reguardless of his disablility. And how do you know that he won't play in the oval office the way Jon Jon did? I am shock to hear mothers (working or other wise) to complain about Govenor Palin. OH, and one more note... McCains mother is 96 and still saner than all of us, And John survived a POW camp...hes not passing on anytime soon. DRILL BABY DRILL
Thanks Jib, I'm getting more and more excited about the upcoming election as well. I've tried to avoid the tv propanda to this point to try and prevent election "burn-out". Hopefully by jumping in now I'm not too early.
Have a great weekend and again, thanks for your contribution to the board.

Good points Steve, and you are correct about the polar bear not being on the endangered list, and I do agree with you that eco tourism is a huge draw to Alaska. People will fly from all parts of the world just to see brown bear, and I guarantee you those same folk would jump enthusiastically at a chance to see a polar bear in the wild.
The point of experience is somewhat of a moot point, but I still think that the team of Obama-Biden has much more diplomatic war experience than does the McCain-Palin team.
It is nice to see an "ordinary" politician emerge into the national spotlight without an ivy league/spoon in the mouth background.
Not only is it an exciting year for national politics, but its a very important year. My gut tells me that our country is approaching an important turning point, and I hope that the next executive staff can grasp this and guide our county in the appropriate direction.

Good points Steve. There are many more reasons to like Palin than to not like Palin as the Vice President choice.
1) She's Hot (in that nice librarian kind of way) 2) She has had to actually make a ton of tough decisions as Governor and Mayor. Thus, she HAS experience (unlike Obama). 3) She's a GREAT speaker, comes across very intelligent while being charming at the same time. 4) Your average person can identify with her and her family. Doesn't come across as a snooty Washington suit! 5) She's not afraid to shake things up.
I could continue listing more.. but that's enough for now. I wonder if Sarah Palin was ever a community organizer like Obama.. That might be missing from her resume. Please.. don't debate the experience factor.. it's really not debatable.
"1. She is very focused on drilling 1st and foremost instead of developing alternative fuel sources (besides natural gas). She wants to open ANWR and our coastal waters for drilling. I personally like halibut, cod, and especially salmon way too much to allow more offshore drilling." What's funny about this view is that prior to the decision of who the presidential candidates were going to be there was a mutual feeling on both sides that initially, to increase the supply to keep up with the demand, off-shore drilling was going to be necessary. It was the popular thing AND it's ALWAYS been supported by the majority of conservatives. Why all-of-the-sudden have the Democrats decided this was a big issue? I can think of several reasons and they are all partisan politics excuses....and...."waffling" which has been a theme for Democrat presidential hopefuls the past couple of elections. I don't like any kind of seafood but I'm not sure how drilling on the coast is going to prevent you from enjoying those delicacies.
2. She doesn't believe in the scientific method, so she believes the polar bear needs to be de-listed from the ESL. Is it any wonder that the areas in which the polar bear lives in AK is areas she wants to develop for oil exploration? I'm being a bit nit picky here so forgive me..but...polar bears aren't on the ESL. They're on the TS (Threatened Species) list. So they COULD become endangered but aren't quite yet. K...nuff nit picking..sorry. You could look at this another way Jib...having an endagered species in your area could draw more tourists to the area causing economic stimulation...brilliant move by the governor if it works.
4. The firing of Walt Monnegan over personal family matters isn't the type of vindictive politics this country needs right now. She chased out the AK corruption so her's would fit... except corrupt Senator Stevens, he's in DC these days. Jib...are you SURE Monegan was fired? 100 percent sure? Another question...are you sure there isn't more to this story than personal family matters? Like Wooten tasing his step-son? Or Wooten threatening to kill his father-in-law? How about Wooten drinking on the job in his patrol car or shooting a moose out of season? Are these merely allegations or are there truths to them? If they ARE INDEED TRUE, why wouldn't Monegan fire him? And since he wouldn't fire him as he was requested, shouldn't Monegan have been fired rather than requested to move (replaced) to another position and NOT FIRED like you have stated?
5. McCain is an old dude... if he dies while president I don't think her alone is enough experience to lead the country. You're talking about the lack of experience of a potential Vice President. What about the lack of experience of a potential President? If I based my decision on that fact, I'll take my chances on McCain having a heart attack rather than throwing a greenhorn into the fire from the get go.
Bottom line, Jib...Sara Palin and her husband's past have very minor blemishes in them compared to many. They are far closer to average Joe citizens like you and me than any other candidate beit president or vp. I'm guessing there's far more options for their "child with special needs" in DC than there are in Wasilla too so perhaps the move to DC would be a benefit to Todd considering he'll need to hold the fort down more. I'm also guessing his job with BP will be no more if she does get voted in so they won't have their "tie in to big oil" anymore.
Yep, I'm the conservative one in this debate. Thanks for your input Jib. Your participation is very much appreciated here.

I Loved watching her last night.but then again like watching all the debates...As far as debating politics. Just can't do it - do enough of that with my son and sister's. Everyone has too many opionions - I just like to get them all going and then just fade away. They don't even know I have left the room. Have fun in your debates.
First of all, the only real reason to choose a VP is to draw votes. It doesn't matter who you are talking about, that is the goal. Obama chose Biden because of his extensive foreign policy experience, one area Obama has been critcized for lacking. McCain's reason for chosing Palin, you tell me because I'm not sure.
My reasons for not liking Palin are of the following:
1. She is very focused on drilling 1st and foremost instead of developing alternative fuel sources (besides natural gas). She wants to open ANWR and our coastal waters for drilling. I personally like halibut, cod, and especially salmon way too much to allow more offshore drilling. She wants to drill offshore in Bristol Bay as well. Her daughter's name is Bristol, so I'm sure she saw some beauty in that area at one time and I wonder what happened?
2. She doesn't believe in the scientific method, so she believes the polar bear needs to be de-listed from the ESL. Is it any wonder that the areas in which the polar bear lives in AK is areas she wants to develop for oil exploration?
3. Comical reason: She refuses to move to Juneau even though she is the governor. She communtes to Anchorage from Wasilla each day via her Suburban and then takes a hellicopter if she needs to get to Juneau... will she commute to DC each morning from Wasilla too?
4. The firing of Walt Monnegan over personal family matters isn't the type of vindictive politics this country needs right now. She chased out the AK corruption so her's would fit... except corrupt Senator Stevens, he's in DC these days.
5. McCain is an old dude... if he dies while president I don't think her alone is enough experience to lead the country.
6. Her husband has worked and still works for big oil... I don't want ANOTHER VP or president with financial interest in big oil, Cheney was enough for me.
Anyone in AK can shoot a moose, if she could successfully hunt a mountain goat or even a dall sheep I might be impressed. They're better eating anyway.
My 2 liberal cents.

Yes Chelsea was fairly young..and yes Obama has 2 young children as well....but what I am saying is her YOUNGEST is going to need special attention growing up........
They appear to be a pretty well grounded family and I'd put my money on the fact that Mr. Palin can handle the younger children. Wasn't Chelsea fairly young when the Clintons were in?

I do see this as a chance to draw votes.(and that is my opinion)...and yes EVERYONE in this world has skeleton's in thier closet and cannot control the actions of family members (and frankly I dont care that her daughter is pregnant, and if anything it shows she is just as normal as the rest of us) but what I wonder is what happens when obviously her youngest child will need considerable attention growing up and family should come first ...will she have the ability to possibly attend to the country as her first priority? Especially given McCain is as old as he is?
Keep in mind also that considering Biden has a child in Iraq, they needed to (pardon the pun) combat that fact with the fact that Palin's son will be deployed soon also. She is Pro-Life thus her daughter is not having an abortion. I don't see how her daughter's lifestyle choice affects her own ability to be a leader or decision maker. Even those who have lived life like the Beaver Cleaver family have children who have made bad decisions.
Now..if Palin had taken advantage of an intern while she was governor, how would the Democrats respond to this choice of VP?
ps...hopefully you don't see this choice of VP as only a means to draw votes. If that's the case then why do you suppose Obama chose Biden?

LOL I have to chuckle about Rec guys comments! I think that the majority of the people only know very few facts about her the ones you listed! Also I agree with one of the reason's McCain picked her was to get the Hilary votes. As the world turns...........
I know nothing about Sarah Palin, that is not true I know the following:
1. She has 5 kids (one has downs syndrome) 2. She is from Idaho. 3. She is governor of Alaska 4. I am pretty sure she is prolife 5. She has shot a moose.
And there Now that is everything I know about her.
I have to admit when I saw Mcain announce his running mate, I automatically thought that the GOP picked her in hopes of picking up some of the Hillary votes that do not like Obama.
So all of you GOPers, why are you glad Palin could be our next Pres canidate, or why are you upset?
Lifestyle?...What politicians lifestyle IS NOT a little shady here and there. You don't even have to be a politician to have a shady lifestyle. You could be a lawyer...OK. bad example. Has anyone seen the trailer of the movie called "W." ? It's an Oliver Stone product so you know it'll be twisted as hell.
Lifestyle? You can't leave that hanging out there like that. What DON'T we know?

I think the buzz created by John McCain picking Sarah Palin will be positive for his campaign, even if it negates all of the "experience" arguement.
Being someone who has lived in AK for 5 months now, I completely can not give any support to the McCain campaign anymore. I disagree with the Palin agenda and lifestyle 100%. I will elaborate on this later, as I have a tennis match to play.
A real maverick choice would have been Liberman, and then even I would have considered voting for that ticket... bi-partisanship, would have been amazing.
Anyway, off to pretend I'm in the US Open.

Perfect choice in my opinion. She's going to expose the media for what they really are....media outlets for the Democrats. If you don't believe me...take a look at the most recent US Magazine and compare the cover to the one they did for Obama during the DNC.
I'm actually excited about the Republican ticket again.
