OMG...shes all that!!? Wow...does she do like on the side work. My sons Dr. moved so I need to find someone who can and will work with kids. My son is ADHD and OCD... He is on meds so I need someone who can perscribe them. It is soooooo hard to get a Dr here for my sons "mental" health. Physical health is no problem. We're willing to pay!! Or if she doesnt can she recommend someone. Thank you soooooo much Randy!!
Yeah...as far as I'm concerned...she IS all that. While she does have prescriptive authority, I don't think she does anything on the side, and there is only a certain scope within which she can work. Insofar as your son goes, the ADHD is certainly not a death sentence. We have worked with many ADD, and ADHD kids in our taekwondo classes here in Williston and have seen that Meds are not always the total answer, and an integrated program including exercise and activities sometimes helps a lot; but only your Doctor can help guide you through it. I really hope you can find one in the area to help with these issues.
.....jitters are normal. My wife Kathy went back to school, got her Associate Degree, and then Bachelors degree at WSC in conjunction with the program at UND. She was in the first RN class that graduated from here. They called that group "the million dollar nurses"... which had something to do with the pilot IVN RN Program that included Dickinson and Bottineau. If WSC had not been willing to take a risk, most of that group would never have been able to go back to school and complete their degrees. Kudos to WSC.
I well remember her nervousness about going back to school, then again, taking the boards, both RN, and FNP. Enjoy the thrill....anticipation is half the fun. ;o)
She went on to UND, completed her Masters in Nursing. She is now a Nurse Practitioner, Advanced Oncology-Certified, among many other credentials she holds, and has been actively working in Oncology/Hematology for over ten years. She will be entering the Doctorate of Nursing Program this fall, while continuing her work at Southwest Hematology/Oncology in Phoenix.
Needless to say, I am extremely proud of her. I wish you well in your own efforts. Good Luck.
Thank you, Serena. Your input is very much appreciated. Best of luck to you in your next endeavor.

I am a nurse (my last day is thursday) on the med/surg/ecu unit, I can't speak for the hospital of course but I am personally sorry you experienced bad service. Sometimes from the outside looking in it looks like you are being ignored. Just remember you never know whats going on behind closed curtains, it could be someone needing cpr, that takes more than one person. I've had bad experiences in ER's, The bigger the community the longer the ER wait is. I was once in Grand Rapids Mi, my c-section incision was open about 5 inches. I got in quick but I seen a guy sitting there with an obviously broken toe, he had been sitting there 6 hours, so waiting an hour doesn't seem to long to me. And as a mom of 4 I completely understand feeling frustrated when your childs temp is going up and up.... so please don't think I am pointing anyone out. As the community grows, so will your wait for anything, lunch, the dmv, and even medical care. Its gonna be a culture shock for a lot of people who haven't been around larger communities. Good luck to you all!
Yeah well I have written a letter to the grievance committe at the hospital and have gotten little response..........and I have not been contacted by anyone else.
So...From what I hear from the ER staff ( or hospital staff ) is that they are "aware of this board" and have "contacted some of the people from it" because their stories on here are "embellished". I would like to know who they contacted and what was said to them. A friend of mine did a written complaint about her experience at the ER and this is what they told her. So, Who was it !? LOL Is this true? Because my story is on here and they never contacted me....? just curious as to if they are telling the truth or not.
... Imagine how difficult it must be to recruit new health care providers, particularly Doctors and Mid-Levels, for a community the size of williston, and given the social amenities, or lack thereof, which we have to offer here, compared to what's available elsewhere.
Professionals are not going to find Williston to be a magnet, for many different reasons. The ones who are coming here are probably either "connected" to the community, or are trying to build their resume' to move on to greener pastures. ...
As a student who is just finishing up schooling in a medical field, I can not agree more with Mr. Waitman's comments. It would be nice to raise a family in a community LIKE Williston, but there are many communities like Williston that have so much more to offer educationally, recreationally, and of course the obvious, economically.
I think the actions being taken to advertise the community to a younger crowd is a step in the correct direction, BUT the persons marketing Williston need to portray the city as a place that will attract all types of personalities instead of just individuals who work in the oil industry... but of couse the amenities and services need to be there as well, but we all must start somewhere.

Just to add a little fuel to the fire... I took my 17 month old daughter into the ER at 3:30 in the afternoon because her temp was climbing. She has a history with ear infections that push her temp up to 105-106 until she gets antibiotics. There were two people ahead of us that had been waiting for over an hour. One was a little boy that was crying and crying and coughing and rasping. After three hours in the waiting room, my baby's Tylenol has worn off and and I tell the receptionist if we're going to have to wait awhile could someone please check her temp and give her some more tylenol because she is getting very warm and lethargic. I'm told, "Medicine is for admitted patients only and that Economart is right down the street if I would like to run and buy some." I called my mom and had her bring a thermometer and Tylenol over to the ER. Her temp was up to 105 by then and it was still four hours from the time we walked in to the ER until the time we got back out again. If me or my family is ever dying, please pass right by this ER and take me to Minot cuz that was a joke! It should not take that long for a baby with a high temp to be seen by a doctor.
Over the past 10 years or so, I have been, by no means, a fan of CHI. However, I think, that the hospital, to their credit have been struggling to find a middle ground for quality care, and service, that we can live with.
Imagine how difficult it must be to recruit new health care providers, particularly Doctors and Mid-Levels, for a community the size of williston, and given the social amenities, or lack thereof, which we have to offer here, compared to what's available elsewhere.

I dunno....it is a tough row to hoe....for all of us.
I feel really bad for the people who are having all the bad experiences, and I definitely agree that something's gotta change...but I certainly do not have the answers.
just my two cents, for what it's worth (probably about two cents). ;o) R
I am by no means putting every doctor we have on staff at Mercy into one big bowl. I am talking about an "unfortuante event" that happened to my family TWICE in one week. I am not going to repeat myself by the facts I have stated before! Funny you should menton the people who are there for pain med only, dont you think the hospital knows who these people are and to see someone walk through the door whom you have never seen before and give the least amount of care to her? And their (the doctor's) solution? Give her oxycodone and go home! Yes I agree everyone is human, but as a human, if I have no idea what is wrong with something, I ADMIT that and suggest to the person inquiring....... another person to who i think will help them, I just dont send them on their way, no MATTER what kind of day I have had! I agree with mommy of 2, THIS IS THEIR JOB! THIS IS WHAT THEY SIGNED UP TO DO! NO ONE FORCED THEM TO BE A DOCTOR OR NURSE! BUT IF THEY CANT HANDLE ALL THAT COMES WITH IT, THEY NEED ANOTHER JOB! Just like you or I! I have been put in tough with the "right" person at the hospital and they are doing an "investigation" as what happened that day. The only reason I have shared my story with others is to try and prevent this kind of thing happening to someone else's loved one!
The doctors do ok, in the regular clinic. I, myself, go to Dr. Neilson and think he's great. Dr. Moen (who i believe is not longer here...i could be wrong though) was also another great doctor. And I won't even go into how totally wonderful I think Dr. Solberg is.
Its the rude staff that annoys me. The eye rolls you get from the receptionist....the waiting in the waiting room for EVER with a 10 month old and a really high fever thats just laying there...not moving.....the not getting a towel for blood going everywhere......not to mention the not getting help....for hours...........
yes, I'm sure that they have their fair share of what you call "junkies" that are just looking for meds. But that doesn't mean that they can't "not care" about everyone else. Seeing patients is their job. I don't care "how many they see in a day". Its their job. And like I said before, if you don't like your job as a nurse or doctor or even receptionist, QUIT. We don't like you either :) And I say that as nicely as possible.
When I was up there a month ago with abdominal pains, I went in at 11 at night and didnt see the doc till 1 in the am, didnt get admitted till 6 am. It was pretty busy, but there was a guy that came in after me, he didnt seem to be in distress, wasnt bleeding anywhere, and they let him in before me, I got up and told the wife we were going somewhere else. My wife stopped to tell the receptionist this and she called back in the er and they said I was next, I told the receptionist I would wait another 15 min and then leave. Here is another thing that happened that night. It was like the three stooges were running the er or something. They took my vitals, doc came in and asked me what my temp was when they took my vitals, they didnt even do that. I had to leave a "sample" in a cup in the bathroom, I went in and there was two more just sitting there, so I brought mine back to the room with me so it wouldnt get messed up with anyone else, the nurse came in and took it, a few minutes later the same nurse came in, holding the cup up so I could see it and asked if this was mine. WTF??? Like I know what my urine would look like. What was I supposed to do??? Then after being in pain all night and after blood, urine, and a MRI of my gut was done the doc comes in and says its not my appendix, that he dosnt really know what it is. Then looking at me he rolls his eyes and asks me if I want to be admitted. What a joke, dont know for sure if the doc was Moe and the two nurses was Curly or Larry, but it was a three ring circus in there.

Sounds like nobody really knew what to treat her for due to your comments and treatment regime used by the medical providers at the ER. Is there an MD or physicians assistant at the ER at all hours or are they just on call. It's one thing to not have anybody else being seen, but it's another issue if the MD is just on call and took his/her time getting into the clinic.

wILLISTON DIDNT EVEN TAKE THE CHANCE TO TREAT HER, THEY WOULDNT ADMIT HER WHO KNOWS WHAT WILLISTON WOULD OR WOULDNT HAVE DONE, SHES NOT HERE! AND SHE HAS BEEN AT ST A'S GOING ON 2 WEEKS.
Well said Mommy of 2! THe issue here is that she was not seen for over 1 hour when all three rooms were open! They also told her "pain is not a sickness" I am not talking about a rude comment that was made because the nurse was overwhelmed for whatever reason, I am talking about the care in general! FYI She is still at St. A's in Bismarck, she is going on 2 weeks there, ......HERE "she wasnt sick enough to be in the hospital"! And they wont release her at St. A's until the pain is gone or under control, neither of which has happened!
Unfortunately, Brandy, staff size does matter...JLV, no Beavis laughs on that one!!
Seriously though, nurses that work under tough conditions tend to lose some morale which bleeds over into their customer service aspect of being a healthcare worker.
I'm not saying your situation had anything to do with how many people were working that night, I'm just saying when business operations are understaffed, it makes life crappy for the workers which, in turn reflects on how they deal with customers, or patients in your case.
But it SHOULDN'T ! Thats poor poor customer service. A crappy work place should have NOTHING to do with your customer service. Thats a poor a excuse that many people use. I have the WORST surroundings EVER. I work in a bar full of drunk obnoxious people, and i HATE drunk people. Do I take it out on the people that sit down at my table? Nope. Its not THEIR fault that I have to work on my day off because we're understaffed. Its not THEIR fault that my boss yelled at me this morning. Why take it out on them and give poor customer service? It just doesn't make sense. If you hate your job so much that your giving poor customer service, its time to find another job. Period.

Under staffed??? Could be, but doesnt explain the reason someone waits for over 1 HOUR to be seen when they are totally empty! Or when they make someone who can barely walk and cant do a thing by themselves and are administered morphine every 15min go home!
I have never had to use the ER in Williston, but is there any chance that the doctors are not at fault here and the real issue is that the ER is just under-staffed?

Another ER experiance....among MANY bad ones from my family (usually at LEAST an hour wait...if not longer)
My hubby broke his hand at work and had to go the ER during the day. It was 1:00 when we got there. He was bleeding EVERYWHERE and was pacing back and forth in the waiting room in pain. No one offered pain pills, no one offered a towel, no one came out to check on him. Nothing. He's bleeding EVERYWHERE!!! About an hour of bleeding on the floor, I finally find someone pushing a cleaning cart, I think it was a custodian, so I asked for a towel for my husband so he wouldn't bleed on the floor. I finally get one about an hour and half after we arrive. We're sitting at 2:30 now, still in the waiting room. About 3:00, we get into a room. The doctor looks (i'm assuming the same ER doctor everyone complains about, cuz he really IS an idiot) says that he needs x-rays. FINALLY get x-rays at 5:00. He needs surgery. Surgery is scheduled for 7:00. They take him for Surgery FINALLY at 10:30. Dr. tells me it will be an hour. 1:00 in the morning he comes out. Nobody comes to talk to ME until about 1:45 or so. We get to go home at 3:30.
Quick story about another time, my son was running a fever of 105.6. I call to ask what I should do, cuz I have been giving him tylenol and nothing is breaking it. I take him in. We sit in the waiting room for 3 HOURS!!!!!! WAITING FOR 3 HOURS WITH A 10 MONTH OLD WITH A REALLY HIGH TEMP.....no one cares. We ending up leaving.....unseen by a doctor or nurse. I had the intentions of going to minot ( we could have got there in the 3 hours we had to wait) but his fever did eventually break.
I am glad to hear your grandson got stiched up properly, good thing he could walk, had no chest or joint pains, could sit and stand on his own and wasnt administered morphine every 15 minutes......otherwise they would of sent him home!
My Older grandson (2 years +) fell and cut his knee on Monday evening. Daughter-in-law took him up to ER and I got there a little bit later (his Dad was out of town working). Dr. and ER Nurses did a good job....Doc stitched him right up. I think she did a good job, so I guess there are some up-sides to the ER service, as well as the horror stories.
I havnt heard of anyone dying, but there is a doc there that I would like to fill out a complaint on, wont say his name but the guy comes across to me as being very "lazy"..

I recently had the honor of experiencing the ER hospital care 2 times and one week...............here are the details.....
Some one very dear to me had was rushed to the hospital with chest pains (she thought she was having a heart attack) we got right into the ER and an EKG later, it was no heart attack. They gave her morphine for the pain and sent her home with some potassiam pills. As we were ready to leave she started to swell up and was all red, so they gave her benadryl (they thought maybe she was reacting to the morphine) and we left. Sunday came and she was a little better, Monday morning she felt ok and by 1:30 in the afternoon she could not move so back to the ER we were. WE WAITED OVER 1 HOUR TO BE SEEN! Here was a lady who had to be helped up and helped back down sitting in the lobby with a trash can in front of her for fear of throwing up as ALL 3 rooms in the ER were EMPTY! COMPLETELY EMPTY FROM THE TIME WE CAME IN! It was very clear to everyone who passed by this lady needed help NOW! After an hour of agony her daughter finally walked back into the ER desk area as the doctor and all the nurses were standing and said "can we at least get her a bed so she can lie down?!?!" I CANNOT FATHOM THE IDEA OF WHAT EXCUSE THEY WOULD HAVE AS TO WHY WE WAITED OVER AN HOUR TO GET IN A ROOM?!?! Finally one of Williston's finest came in to check her out.......they started administering morphine every 15 min. she was swollen in every joint in her body but after oh lets say 7HOURS they realeased her with some pain meds and told us "her pain is under control and she is not sick enough to stay" WHAT? She cant sit, stand, get dressed, go to the bathroom by herself and is so much pain that everytime she moves she cries out in agony, and is administered MORPHINE every 15 minutes but the pain is under control and she is not sick enough to stay? Oh and as they say this she starts to vomit! She tells the nurse I think I have to throw up and guess what the nurse does? She hands her the bucket and runs out! RUNS out! Ok Im not fond of puking but I am not a nurse! So we pack her up and go home, we have no other choice............Wednesday rolls around and no change and by Thursday we are at wits end. We take her to the walk in clinic as we are not going back to the ER and that doctor has no idea either but at least he has the balls to say that he has no idea what it is and that she needs to be hospitalized. He thinks that possibly it could be an acute flare up of arthritis so her makes her an appointment in Bismarck the next day. WE decide we cannot wait for the next day so we dope her up on Valium and load her in the van and off the St A's emergency room we went. We were convinced that we would not leave St A's until they agreed to take her.....................we arrived there that evening and they took one look at her blood work and started testing for all kinds of things right away and admitted her to the hospital that night. We told them this had been going on for 6 days now and that Williston would do NOTHING and they could not believe it! She is still in the hospital, they have no idea what is wrong, but at least "she is sick enough to stay".
I cannot express to everyone the fear I have of someone I know needing serious help here in Williston knowing they will probably die here in the care of Mercy Hospital. BTW as we spent 7 hours in the ER here in Williston I took a little walk to med/surge and I counted 13 open beds just on the one side! So they were over half empty!
Does anyone know where a person would start a "complaint form" do I contact the State Board of health or somewhere else? Please someone direct me in the right direction as this might be you and your loved one someday.
I also was told someone died in the ER waiting room in the last 2 weeks waiting to get seen? Has anyone heard any truth to this?
