Not to be harsh, but, geeeeze, what the heck do you want? My folks live in a town with NO hospital at all! DRs and nurses are human too!! NOT all perfect. And who isn't odd these days? Im sure, he suggested that to you cause you know you child more than anyone. Its easy to sit in judgement of others.... whos to say your not the "strange" one? SOOOOO sorry if Im harsh or wicked...I'm PMSing and grumpy with everone!!
Not to mention, YOU'RE POSTING AT 3 SOMETHING IN THE MORNING! I'm crankey that time of day too if I'm still awake. And here I thought my kids were the only ones who thought I was odd.
Mo2, I thought I'd just re-itterate the fact that he's a smart guy. Didn't mean to sound like I was putting words in your mouth. Sorry if it sounded that way. I cover my ears too when my kids are crying and whining.

If I'm not mistaken, he's the only male md at the clinic...besides the radiologist. He's actually a very good doctor...very intelligent. Might lack a bit in communication, but otherwise a very smart man.
You were in good hands there. Hope the little one is feeling better.
Yup, I never said he wasn't a good doctor. In fact, I think i said I don't doubt that he is a good doctor. Just a little strange, thats all.

ok. I went to the walk in clinic today. Hmmmm....what to say, what to say. The nurses and staff were REALLY nice. Definaly no complaints there. They were extremely friendly to my kids which is also nice (they even got popcicles , which they loved!).
The doctor is a little...umm......hmm...how to put this nicely.....not all there? I don't doubt that he's a GOOD doctor, he's just a little......differant. Like when he walked in the room and said "uh oh...forgot the white jacket...be right back. (haha...it was kind of funny) So in he comes back with his white coat on...and the dose of my sons medicine conversation...went something like this
Doctor: you can give him 2 doses or 3 doses today, whichever you think, then give him 2 tomorrow. do that for 3 or 5 days and see how he's doing. I gave him a refill if you need it. If the ear infection doesn't go away up his dose to 3 for a day if you think. or just 2....whichever...
Me: So give him 3 today?
Doctor: 2 or 3
Me: What do you recommend?
Doctor: it doesn't matter
Me: um.....ok...
This was after he got done covering his ears from my sons crying.....umm..yeah...that was weird.
all in all...the job got done. I didn't have to deal with craven hagen, which is nice. So if you just need an antibiotic...and you can deal with a differant kind of doctor........its alright. Fast...which is nice. Staff is kid friendly...doctor is not. But its alright.
Hi yall! new to the site and thought I'd drop a note in about the walk in clinic. Yes, it is open. Currently using the same space as the VA clinic in the Plainsman. That will be changing soon as Fairlight Medical Center is planning some remodeling and moving things around to accomodate more patients. Current hours are M T Th and Fr 8-5, Wed 8-7, Sat 8-12 noon. As more medical staff are added, the hours may increase. The Walk in is intended for folks who have minor injuries, ear aches, migraines, cuts, abrasions, etc. Broken bones can be xrayed and casted, but car accidents with multiple injuries, or heart attack/stroke, should be seen in ER. Costs are minimal. $25 copay with insurance, $75 copay without insurance. Of course additional items such as sutures, xrays, CT Scan, MRI, etc and other supplies will be charged for also. But all in all the cost is much less. and comparable to a regular clininc visit. Our goal is not to replace the ER at a hosptial, but to be able to provide a service that has been long needed in Williston. We hope that we can help provide folks with peace of mind in their healthcare, knowing that there is another place they can go. While the Walk in clinic is a first come first served basis, we do everything we can to ensure patients are seen as soon as possible. No appointment is needed, but you can call 577-WALK(9255) if you have questions... I just started working at Fairlight in March and really enjoy the postive work place and the fact that our Doctors really care about the residents of the area. If you ever need us...we are here. montanacountrygirl

There is so much wierd stuff out there! My husband was hopitalized last year for 2 days what they thought was West NIle but wasnt and all his blood, urine, and bm samples came back normal but he had fever, body aches, head aches and diahrea( which may have been casued by all the crap and allergic reactions he had.....he went into anaphalactic (sp) shock in the emergency room) We still dont know what happened to him.
No, just the bad cramping, didnt get nausea until they gave me morphine, but I dont know for sure if it was the morphine or the virus that gave me nausea. Hope your friend gets feeling better Brandy. And I now sympathize with all you women out there that get cramps, sorry you have to go through that. Thats one of the first things my wife asked me when I got out. Still on a liquid diet tho- but feeling better. Bawk, Bawk....

No, not right away, had nausea, but i think that was from the morphine. They were givin me such a strong dose, on the first day there, I didnt know what was going on.

It would have been nice to have one late Sunday P.M. Thats when my ordeal went down. I spent the afternoon golfing, well, in my case, it was more like wack the ball, prey I could wack it hard and be able to find it. Anywho..
I ate a normal size meal around 5:30, two hamburgers and a salad. After the first berger and half the salad, I got to feeling full so I thought id finish off my salad, after all it was just a salad, right? The feeling didn't go away. I thought, maybe if I went to bed Id feel better. I lied down, feeling got worse, bad cramping in my lower abdomen. Then i thought, it was just a pulled muscle from golfing, what muscle there is in that area. My wife suggested a heating pad might help, so i tried that, pain got worse, it went from a dull throb to a duller throb with sharp pains, kinda like I had to have a big b.m.( this is a medical thread, so I will use medical terms!) The pains got worse, so went to the e.r. around midnight.
Sitting around waiting I overheard someone say they have been waiting for over two hours with bad chest pains, I looked over and there was an elderly gentalman speaking rather loudly to the receptionist, he had her in tears. Thats when I knew I was in for a long night. The gentleman left awhile later stating he couldnt wait any longer. Shortly after that a younger man walked in, then they started calling peoples names, (maybe the e.r. doc had some kind of emergency he had to attend.)
The guy that came in after me was called in before me. Kinda got me upset and I started to leave as well, when my wife asked me to stay at least half an hour. I thought maybe my chances were better in Sidney.
Finally got to see the doc, and by now the pain was so intense I thought for sure it was appendicitis.
He ran some tests did a ct scan and the tests came back negative for appendicitis.(Thank God) he said it was just a virus in my intestines. Gave me some morphine and admitted me to the hospital, that was about 4:00, still had to wait two hours to get into my room and get settled, by then I felt like pretty good, thanks to the help of morphine.
I just wish there was a faster process of getting you into the er to see a doc, I understand that ****, oops, I mean B.M. happens. Now Im home and still am on a liquid diet as I still cannot tolerate anything but liquids, if I grow a beak and feathers, you'll know why.

As someone that has worked in both an ER and a walk in clinic for many years, I would have to say ER's are full of people that don't need to be there, taking up a room for the emergent patients. The ER is full often because patients say its "closer to their house" or they think their sore throat needs immediate attention versus the heart attack patient or accident victims. Many times I would see three ambulances in the bay, 1 lifeflight landing, a lobby full of patients and two people in the lobby asking why the wait was so long for their needs. They think its first come first serve and that isn't the case. When you have no choice but the ER is a town like Williston, it makes for a very long night.
Walk In Clinics are great if they have expanded hours, which allows the patient to be seen after work or the weekends. It doesn't make alot of sense to have a clinic that is only open until 5pm or even 6pm. Yes, there is a wait at most walk in clinics but its better than trying to get into your doctor and taking time out of your work schedule. In the height of flu season, there could be a wait of over two hours or more. Most of the time, that still isn't a deterrent. when your sick, your sick. There's never a good time.
We are lucky around here, we have 6 walk in clinics to choose from and one is for Pediatrics exclusively. The latest I think most of them are open are 9 or 10 pm.
The pay scale is usually lower if you make an appointment with your doctor, then the walk in clinic services are second, followed by the ER being the most expensive. If you go to the ER here, you have to pay both the hospital and clinic copay at the time of your visit, not just the ER copay due to their billing.
k.Done ranting. LOL

Gaylen, wait until you have multiple little ones coming down with bugs, bumps, and bruises at the same time and THEN tell me the ER is as good as or better than a walk-in clinic.
Nancy hit the nail on the head, the cost difference between the two makes a big difference.
I'm guessing the before/after hours clinics tend to be busier since those are non-working hours and people can bring their kids/themselves without missing work. So my theory then is that I'll start avoiding the walk-in clinics and go to Craven Hagen or Trinity during working hours and I should have no problem being seen without much wait! Right!

In my opinion walk-in clinics (after hour clinics) are great-at least in Bismarck. It's a $15 co-pay vs. a $75 one for us. The waits usually aren't too bad unless it's during the height of cold and flu season and then it's still not bad.
From experience, you're STILL going to wait just as long at an after hours as you would if you went to the ER. Two years ago I broke two bones in my ankle and since it was a weekend, I chose to go to Emergicare. They opened at 7:00am and I was there at 7:15am. The place was full. There were no more chairs to sit on. I stood up for about 2 hours with a broken ankle before I was seen by someone who just did the Xrays. Then I waited some more for a Dr. I was there until 2:00pm. If you are not about to die...then you'll be waiting a long while. I'm sure there are advantages to an after hours, but...I'll go to the ER from now on. (Hopefully not any time soon though.)
Nope. This would be the Craven Hagen Clinic in the hospital.

Well I think the hours are going to be until 10 at night and if you have tried to get into the Dr lately its near impossible to do in a 3 day time frame, and I was at the emergency room this weekend twice with my twin nieces and we waited 3 hours to get in on Friday, so I think this would be a great addition to Williston. Lets face it how many times do you feel icky at night and go to the emergency room for something the regular Dr can take care of?
I hadn't heard of this. I know there is already a childrens clinic but I don't know the hours. And there's the imaging clinic.
Can you tell me why you'd go to this clinic as opposed to Craven Hagen or Western Dakota?
