RE: Escalating fuel/gas prices

Well I'm one of those SUV drivin mamas truckin my 4 kids around.  I would have a pretty hard time cramming 4 boys in a Honda Civic hybrid or a Prius.  Are there hybrids big enough for 6 people?

Shayla and her 4x4's isn't that whole other thread just by itself??? j/k shayla.

If you don't mind paying through the noe just to ge around. the there ya have it. I'm not saying get rid of eveything fun. I am just talking about the 50 trips a day that people make in their "SUV" running kids around.

I too have a motorcycle that I could get rid of in favor of something more fuel concious. But like ya said, it's fun to hot dog a lil.

Me on the other hand, i just have to run myself around.

I traded my 10 mph dodge pu. for a 08 honda civic hybrid. I drove to Minot last week and got 52 mph. Along with a $2100 break on my 07 taxes, I think hybrid's are the way to go. I've look at Toyota Prius, but more expensive and no tax break. Although the Prius gets upwards of 60 mph because it can run on pure battery power under 37 mph. The gas motor on mine is always running.

I've also looked into Ethanol, I was looking at a Taurus Flex fuel car and it turns out that even though gas is cheaper by the gallon, mpg is lower. It cost's about $400 more for fuel a year for a flex fuel car.

I did 2yrs up in minn/st p area. loved the concerts, hated the winters.

I moved here in 2000. got layed off in end of 03, did a year 04 back in williston(just not for me). then moved back to colo spgs in jan 05. out of everywhere i have ever been I feel most at home here(excluding alaska)

you can run 100% bio fuel if you do choose, but my reading show you need to make sure your vehicle is newer as it is prety caustic and wears out the rubber parts in older vehicles.

you can also rn straight veggie oil granted you run it through filters.. etc...

there is a new flood of diesel vehicle that will be entering the US from various foreign automakers all with mpg over 40 or really close. and some closer to 50 mpg

I think it is a sign o' the times Gundo. You can dance around the cost of fuel like you suggested but I think the price of fuel now a days is going to be the new standard. What is the ratio of veggie oil to diesel to make your own bio-diesel? I think it's 4 gal.of veggie oil to 1 gal. of fuel ??? E-85 sounds good if you don't want to do the hydrogen fuel thing. I think there is a problem though in the supply keeping up with the demand. Regardless of how you do it. In the end, we'll be paying more for fuel. The price of eggs has gone up due to the price of gas. Milk...the same. Starbucks. (I call it 5bucks.) is more rediculous than ever. Trucking makes the world go round. We all have to pay for it one way or the other, in some way, shape or form.

BTW, How long have you been in the Springs? I lived there for about 13 years until 2005. I'm now in balmy Rochester, MN.

So is anyone doing anything to help defray/offset the hit on thier pocketbooks with the ever raising cost of fuel/gas?

I consolidate trips and try to do my purchasing on the way home from work.

is Ethenol the answer?

is hybrid electro/gas?

what about biodiesel or svo(straight veggie oil)?
