Lol...Slette...some people can't seem to get their cliche's quite right.
Randy, I believe the park board will get this 1 cent with the next vote. The park board is really making a valiant effort at hearing the voters. Not just listening to them...but hearing them as well. For a better explanation of that...go watch "White Men Can't Jump".
Best of luck on the next go-round Slette.
I don't know that this will pass next time either, but after watching the process proceed, I am a lot more optimistic about the proposal. I think that the Park Board and the Committee they created to study the one cent tax, have been working hard to move the concept forward, but we are fast coming to the end game, and this is the time to be talking about the tax, whether you are pro, or whether you are con. If it was up to me, I would make sure that this Committee was out in the public, using every available media source, and every PR opportunity, each and every day presenting and sharing a logical and methodical road map for what it is they are hoping to accomplish, and then answering the questions. If the final plan for the one cent tax and the final wording of the ballot measure should just all of a sudden, appear in front of the public without a lot of preliminary exposure, I think it will still be destined for failure.
I really want to vote "yes" on this 'next go-round'. I've been to these rodeos before, and I ain't gonna do it without the information and guarantees I need to hear (total and complete pun intended), and see.
Park Board Monthly meetings are NOT forums. Generally, a Park Board will allow citizens to politely and respectfully approach them if requested as an agenda item and sometimes as an add-on, but if they do not like what they hear, or feel it is confrontational...., or simply do not have the time, you get cut off, right now, right here, and right in your face.
I think, that given the experience garnered, and the lessons learned from the special election, this Board is more open to complete and utter transparency and have a plan to implement. It is now up to the citizens, both pro and con, to follow up on the positive actions they have taken and make sure all the questions and issues are met with satisfactory answers.

Dave, you remind me alot of myself in meetings. By any chance do you watch "The Office"? I feel there has to be at least one in the bunch that keeps things light.

Lets hope we have a lot of people there so we can hear concerns for the future of the district.
Will update after meeting how many people came to voice there opinions
Would I count, Dave? Since I'm all for getting you guys the extra funding? You don't need me to defend the issue too do you?

Hope you get a bunch of people there Dave, but having lived that for 12 years, and seing first hand, up close, and personal how it works, I have to say, don't hold your breath.
If the meetings were later in the evening like at 7 PM or so, and if you didn't have time constraints, you might get some more people in attendance, and if the occasional monthly meeting was held as a forum, rather than general business meeting, and with a widely advertised agenda, might maybe more people would come, you betcha.
All facetious remarks aside, I hope you guys will continue search for a way to move forward with the concept.
As an interested citizen, I would enjoy visiting either casually or with a focus group about the tax issue, as to options or possibilities for the next phase, or approach.
