President Obama looking to have powers to shut down the interenet

What a couple of funny guy's.   Although I do remember working at Hardy Salt - and the dinosaur computer I was on  - working on line with St. Louis.  Mpls controlled that portion and whenever we had problems - I would run their test's from Williston and report back what the numbers were.  There they could find the problem and what lines from Mpls.  I worked there, from 1975 to 1986 or after.  It amazed me then what they could do.   Now our government as a whole is pretty chilling to me..  And yes Al Gore said he invented it, he should.  lol. Actually my main point is - doesn't the president already have these power's without a law?  He is after all the President of the United States.   Back to work. I sure hope the Democrate senator's would do the same, and get out of hiding.

VKO .. I remember the idea of an Internet shutdown in the news last fall.  The main concern is security.  Internet service providers have an architecture that enables trunks to be shutdown and therein cutting off communications from other countries.  There are many different type of Internet shutdowns that can be implemented.  Some of which could affect our homes while many other shutdowns would enable most Internet within our own country to sustain availability.  The question now revolves around the governance of such a shutdown.  Obviously, just as there is a protocol for pulling the trigger on a nuke, there must be similar protocol for shutting down the Internet.  Shutting down the Internet, no matter what scale of a shutdown, can cause millions of not billions to our countries economy.  Many businesses have become dependent on the Internet as our economy has become so global.  That's about the extent I know about the Internet shutdown.. and.. kkk .. adckajfk  .. f. ahh, the Internet is shutting down as I type!  Bye!

And Jimmylikesvikes, exactly.   Will it happen?  I do not think so.  But, something has to get serious.  Forgive my spelling  - 9 pm is coming and then my eye's shut.

Not to worry Steve. I have 10 thing's going on at the same time.  I should do my own research,  but time limit's.  I say something and should have research to back it up - but just figure you all are smarter than me and I could take a short cut.  Not to Worry about me.    All is okay. smile

Hi VKO...I'm not commenting on the Internet shutdown specifically, as from I've read the Internet will not shutdown entirely.  But to comment on a government shutdown:  If a family is broke, the family needs to make serious budget cuts.  If the country is broke, the country needs to make serious budget cuts.  We CANNOT continue to go into debt at the current rate.  Both Republicans and Democrats are responsible for the debt we have today.  Both are responsible for bringing down the debt as well... that is if we care about our kids future.  Republicans want to make cuts.. plain and simple.  Obama has increased government by 200,000 employees since he took over.  Unfortunately, if we make the cuts proposed by the Republicans, many of those employees will lose their job.  So our Speaker of the House says "So be it".  Nancy Pelosi says "You can't say so be it to the American citizens".  Well, in my opinion, someone is going to suffer from the cuts.  You cannot start shrinking government without affecting somebody. Duh!   So Nancy can be Nancy and continue being an idiot or she can get "real".

So right now it's a dare, double dog dare you thing going on between the Dems and the Reps.  If they cannot agree to the Republican's proposal, the government will shutdown.

Another annoying issue with this is our congress people's pay check while the government shuts down. If the government is forced to shut down, members of Congress and the president should be treated the same way as all other federal employees.  They should not be paid. And to take it one step further, they should not be paid retroactively once the government reopens.  Perhaps then our congress can take these proposals seriously and work something out.

Sorry VKO, the lol wasn't about the subject of your story.  It was the lack of information.  You put what I would call a "teaser" out here.

On message boards there is a term for people that consistently get led into researching for verification.  They're called hamsters.  Some people will put the "I heard this" on a message board again and again because they know others will verify. It's almost a game for the "teaser".

Sorry if my lol offended you.  It wasn't meant to be used as you were thinking.

If the government thinks it's gonna take internet away from anyone they'll have a rude awakening coming.

However, if the plan is to pull the plug on an international level, will that really affect us much?

I first of all am not in a panic.  Although, it gave the government another inch.  The government  has their own way of doing their own business - separate of our on line business.  There are different grid's. I may have spelled that wrong.  Steve Powell - you should know this,  since your in the business.  And lol all you want.  It was on line.  And the terrorist's can get into that system. And have.  I am just against President Obama and his protection of the United State policy.    No more inches for our Government to controll our live's.  Period. And it is not a lol matter.   Again not in a panic and did not just make it up.

The Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, which is being pushed hard by Senator Joe Lieberman, would hand absolute power to the federal government to close down networks, and block incoming Internet traffic from certain countries under a declared national emergency

this is to block terrorist countries from being able to communicate with each other via the iternet in case of a national threat. Not to block you from surfing the internet. Don't think anyone needs to panic.

Actually either way - I do not care until after April. My husband caught it and I looked it up. Other than that, your on your own.
