It's at 6th Ave E and 24th St E? Around there. I am wondering if the Moose take care of it or if it's the Parks and Recs responsibity?

My parent's used to be big Member's of the Moose.  I never paid attention.  Where is the Moose Park?  Sorry for my lack of knowing where the park's are.  I only knew when my kid was little.

I should probably start a new thread for this question but I'm going to ask it here as it probably isn't worth a whole new thread. Didn't the city contract with a company a couple of years back that did surveys and was suppose to show how Williston should grow and where services should be located? I remember going online and filling out a survey on where I think parks should go and what services were lacking here. Did we ever get results from that? I don't remeber seeing any conclusion to that. On another note, who is in charge of Moose Park? I live over in that area and that is the only park over here. It's seriously lacking in equipment.

I did find the city was trying in 1993 to obtain a 1 cent hospitality tax to fund an extention on the Raymond Center. They conducted a phone survery that didn't go well. It doesn't appear to have made it to a vote. The survey demonstrated a big NO. I did a time line check on the Raymond center. This appeared for Dec. of 1993. I could not find the original building...

Ultimately...does the old history matter?  It think it is how we (the community) move forward on infrastructure projects including but not limited to, the outdoor pool, and expansion of, or completion of final phases of the Raymond Center vision.

I am in favor (which I think I have said several times) of a continuation or extension or utilization of some segment of the 1 cent tax...but not if it is given to the Park Board or other groups with projects, laissez-faire...along with a blank check and no oversight...

Now Pete and I thought there was some policy that instituted maintaining the building writen in. You know it was so long ago we must go to the library and hope the old issues of the Herald were balanced in reporting.

I was just given a history lesson by my mom.  I need someone to verify this.  The Raymond Family Community Center was never actually supposed to be built...at least according to the voting taxpayers back then.

From what I have been told, this building went to vote twice and was turned down both times.  Pledges were taken and the building was built from those pledges.  However, the second phase of the building was never built since the boom went bust.  My understanding is that there are still people bitter over this event considering they never voted for it in the first place and yet they still have to pay taxes for the maintenance of the building.  Of course there are many of us that are thankful that we have this building.

Please don't take this the wrong way.  If in fact the Park Board is selling a one cent tax to me based on getting a new rec center...they know I'm on board.  In fact, they know I'm all for getting them some extra funding to get caught up on their infrastructure needs. I'm not trying to take that away from them.  But sometimes we need to be reminded of the history of our local government entities and the way they went about getting exactly what they wanted.

If in fact they use an article much like the one we saw on the front page of the Herald this week that gives us the notion that if we pass a one cent tax we will be working towards a new rec center, has history repeated itself if they get the one cent tax and ne'er a word is mentioned about such a building thereafter?

But I digress, please let me know if the above noted history lesson is factual and if not, well, then.....NOTHING TO SEE HERE!!! biggrinbiggrinbiggrin
