Broken Chain makes a good point. There are a number of hot topics. Citizens should be talking and I was just having this same conversation with a friend as I was reading this page.
The Williston Issues page is a forum for any and all who care about things...not just one or two things, but all things. I think the number of hits on the page shows that people read it, even if they do not respond to conversations. My two sons have threatened to cut off my computer during working hours because I keep making waves but my reply is always...well you're reading it ain't you...so somebody else must be too.
Some have posted, and then became so offended by the response, that they just left. I think that is patently wrong. Diversity in opinions is important. Listening to those different opinions is just as important.
The normal trend is that I, and several of my like-minded friends will sit in my office, or wherever, and commiserate about the sad state of affairs in life, politics, love, war, business, or whatever the heck you want, but we all have the same perspective. Individuals with a 180 degree difference of opinion likely do the same, but with their own circle of like-minded friends.
This board provides us with a common ground where, with civil discourse we can attempt to logically provide a perspective that at worst, makes people think about those issues, and at best...actually persuades others to come to your way of thinking...or persuades you to come to their way of thinking....
As I have said before, and whether we like it or not...the internet is the wave of now...not the future. Young people across all social strata have figured that out...and us older folks need to.
This page is a phenomenal attempt to bring those of us in Williston or those of us who have ties to Williston, together for the greater good. All that is necessary is a willingness to share your perspective....
I enjoyed going back and forth with Larry Larsen some time back...I just wish he would come over here. Jibslider, who grew up with my kids puts a good spin on stuff that is usually diametrically opposed to what I believe, and Kingfisher, a good friend also has way more ability than I do in expressing himself, albeit in a little more left leaning view of things... I would like to see more of the lefties expressing themselves...I don't generally agree with their views, but I will defend to the death their right to be wrong...
...so c'mon peoples...don't be timid....say what you think, and let's talk about it.
I wish I could be as to the point as Randy Waitman, Jibsliber, Steve Powell, and the rest. I can only be truthfull from my life and from the heart. Some thing's in the Williston Herald have me to the point of being a manic as they have been one sided my whole time of reading them. Including embarrasing my parent's at one point in my life, I do forgive easy, but I never forget. That is where I leave this..
I see a few hot topic's in the local paper that should be concerning to Williston residents, but no discussion of them on this board. I'm just curious as to why. again.
