LOL...I dont think I am negative or pessimistic, I'm stating the truth. If, you had a stead income...you would do this and that for us....I call the Bullpucky flag on that!! NO, you would put money away for a rainy day. And who could blame you? Fund raising is the way to go on the new tennis courts and the bubble dome. If not, it feels like force attrition. I don't mind donating some money...but I shouldn't HAVE to. I dont play tennis, nor do any of my family. There is a Big difference and you can't deny it. You want a dome, build it. If I decide that I'd like to take up tennis, then of course, I should pay! This is not Rocket Science...its common sense.
Great idea Jib...ok now start sending some money home for the domes and such.... thank you sooooo much. Its really easy to sit on the sidelines and tell us what this town needs and doesn't need. Its just not that easy, Jib. Alot of the people here are still stung from the bust in the 80's. And once bitten, twice shy. Have you any idea how many people lost their homes that were foreclosed on? And the city's taxes went up....and those who remaind here were left to pay them. Now its build, build, build again...what happens if the oil goes bust again? I do not blame one person who actually lives here to think and rethink what they want for this City. Because in the end, if it all does go to crap again...Domed tennis courts is going to be the last thing we worry about.
If I had a steady income, I would gladly donate towards an indoor bubble. I would even donate to the current project moving forward, but I would most definitely donate towards a bubble. Steve is correct that many other communities have such complexes that are being utilized.
To be honest, nothing will ever get accomplished if you have a pessimistic attitute portrayed by SKM's post. Why sit around during prosperous times and wait for the "bust" to hit. Why not take some of the prosperity and invest it into projects and programs that will benefit the community? Instead of sitting around and cutting down every program that is searching for funding, get involved in something, anything.
On another note, I am glad the skate park didn't get built in Davidson park. Harmon park is more of a central location, AND the currect location is definitely more of a showcase location. People drive by that corner far more than people drive down Davidson Drive.

I love the idea of domed courts. In fact, I wouldn't stop there. A sports bubble, if you will, would be a great addition. Couple of tennis courts, driving range, and a small restaurant all in the cozy comforts of the bubble. Keep the ideas coming. Talking about these kinds of things can spur action from dedicated individuals in the community.
It CAN be done.

I just read the story in the Williston Herald about the new tennis court project, and I can not be more happy for the citizens of Williston. Those courts at Davidson Park have needed some TLC for over 10 years, and I'm glad that Frank Keogh et al have gotten the support to move the project forward.
Six new regulation courts will only be an asset to the WHS tennis team, who've been playing on smaller courts for as long as I can remember. In high school I played varsity tennis and golf, (as well as tennis in college) and we would always have to wait or ship people down to the college to complete our matches due to only having 4 courts.
It IS a little disappointing that a pitch for a removable enclosure (such as a tennis bubble) didn't get pushed through, so the WHS tennis team as well as the citizens of Williston will still have an enormous disadvantage when compared to those programs and cities that can utilize an indoor facility and play all year long.
Maybe 3 of these new courts could be built so a removable enclosure could be placed over them in the future when more funding can be allocated?
Summer AND winter tennis leagues in Williston would be fantastic.
The project calls for turning the existing four courts at Davidson Park into three regulation-sized courts, adding three regulation-size courts to the east side, shade and water stations between the courts, partial court divider fences, bleachers and walkways, landscaping and trees, according to a brochure handed out at the meeting.
Oh I have soooo been waiting for an opening like this one. Now I get to pontificate from the safety of my anonymousness and hidden closet.
I, too, am happy to see the tennis courts going in Davidson Park...ironic isn't it, that this is pretty much the same spot the attack dogs and lemmings who fought the skatepark so ferociously, in their great wisdom, wanted to put it. One of the reasons that our Park Board did not choose that site for a skatepark was to enable some future development of a less obtrusive nature to be constructed in the vicinity.
It certainly warms my heart to see this. And actually Jib's idea for a domed tennis court is not too far fetched. At one time, we considered doing that very thing for hockey and skating ice. It is not an original idea and has been done in many places. I think the concept is sound, and while money IS an issue, this community has always had a can-do attitude when it comes to certain projects. This might very well be one of them.....and no, I do not play tennis.

Call or contact Faye Moe, Bob Kemp, Luanna Fisketjohn (Holst Peterson), Corey Hanson, and James Sullivan, and send a prayer of thanks to Nadine Chapman, and give 'em an attaboy or attagirl. I betcha they would appreciate it. Vision and foresight are always good stuff.....
