HUH?... So what. Im still confused. "Home made" vs. what "Mars Made" I think I'd rather have "Home Made". I think more thought and and love goes into all things home made. Home Made cookies, home made donuts (grammas), home made gifts....ect. What, pray tell, is wrong with "Home Made"?

What I cant understand is why did the board shoot down Leather and Associates? The board was concerned because they use wood? Come on!! What is really going on here? There has to be some other underlying issue here.
Sorry Tammy. It's Poured in Place. Couldn't remember exactly what it was called. It's a rubbery suface similar to what you'd see on a track at a track meet. Very thick and cushy. Spendier, but definately worth it as far as safety for the kids goes.

The amount of funds that are raised will certainly play a factor in our decision as to what we use for surfacing. Our goal is to put "Pour n Play" (I think that's what it's called anyways) at least on the high traffic areas where falls are more likely to occur if not the entire playground. Hopefully, by the time we're done fundraising and building this park, there will be very little annual maintenance to worry about including the surface maintenance you've mentioned.
MO2, I believe the earliest childhood age development group mentioned in our meetings has been the 2-5 age group. I'ts been awhile since my childhood development classes from NDSU so I don't really remember climbing structures for 1 and a half year olds. I'll mention it to the group though.
Thanks again!!

I know that plans are still underway but do you have any idea what will be on the ground. I am talking about soil, ground up tires, wood chips, etc.... Have you discussed that at all? The parks around here have sand but it has now turned so hard that it is like cement for the kids. It really needs to be tilled and freshened up a bit. Is there a recommendation on what "ground" is best/safest for parks?
Thanks for the inquiry. Many questions, all have answers.
The Community Builders have requested and have been granted land on the Western Star Complex. Currently, Darin Krueger (Community Builders Playground Committee co-chair) is sending requests for proposals to several commercial playground equipment manufacturers. Once we have determined which designer we like the best we will begin our fund raising efforts.
The playground will contain similar equipment to the parks you already see around Williston but will be customized to give more of an appreciation of local resources such as our oilfield community, our ag community, the importance of Lewis and Clark, and the river including the Missouri Bridge.
There will be a design day scheduled for the school aged children to provide their own insight as to what they would like to see as part of this playground. There's no doubt that water will play a big part in those designs so we've decided a nice splashpark (a glorified sprinkler system) will really set this playground apart from most in this region. The splashground will be built in the same location as the playground and would preferably be built at the same time. This depends on how much we can raise.
There's going to be a lot of help needed. Yes, raising funds will be important. But we'll need help with our PR campaign, our volunteer organizing, any meal planning during the build, etc. It's going to take a community effort to build the size of playground we're planning on building. Which is part of what this project is all about. Community Building.
I truly appreciate you asking, MO2. Hopefully I answered your questions. Don't be afraid to ask more or ask again if I didn't get them all.
Just an idea, and I'm not sure if you can take ideas into consideration or not, but I've noticed that most the parks in town are not very "1-3 year old friendly". I'm not really talking about the swings and slides and stuff, but the climbing part of it. I took my son who was about a 1 1/2 at the time to the park with my 3 year old daughter. There wasn't many things he could safely climb up. If you visit the head start building, they have a very cool playground thing in their gym thats safe for younger kids. It would be cool to have something like that in a park also.
I love the idea of a splash park! Thats very cool!
Thanx for taking the time to answer me. I'm exited for a new park!! I think its a GREAT idea!
I have not paid too much attention to this - but keep us informed along the way and when things get going - let us know or me and if I am in a position to help from Food to Bobcat or Sand...I will do my best..Got Sand and Tractor and Bobcat - but no good way to haul it..Just a thought. And since I have no Grand babies I forget about the younger ones in town, now since we moved out of the city limits. Spring is hard and we will be trying to get our house going.

I was reading on the Williston Herald Website that you guys got the land you were looking for. It said something about a splash park also. My questions would be A) what exactly is a splash park and B) will that be in the same location?
I guess a couple more questions would be what kind of park will it be? When will it be done? I heard you want to raise some money for it also, how will it be raised? donations? raffle? any other ideas? I for one would be willing to help raise money for it. I think its a great idea !
