RE: COULD THE OLD LAW ENFORCEMENT BLG BE USED TO HOUSE THE HOMELESS?

I went to the Community Action website - they explain they only have limited space.  So Singles can stay for a night or up to a few weeks.  Families have to go to the Domestic Home.  They try to find them jobs.  The Law Enforcement Center has alot of space.  And asbestos can be contained if done properly.  It can not be disturbed.  Or it can be removed if done correctly. I know it would cost alot of money to update it,  but the building is solid.  Well have racing thoughts, but not enough money.cry

The Student Social Work Organization (SSWO) got together with the Williston Basin Resource Coalition to raise awareness- this was done in 2006, we raised I think 700$ and many vehicle loads of food and personal items.

SSWO used large cardboard boxes and their own shivering selves in their demonstration. The demonstration was Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the northeast corner of the Bethel Lutheran Home parking lot. We stood out in the cold weather of November for 8 hrs. The community response was amazing.

The Williston Basin Resource Coalition (homeless coalition) was the recipient of all the donations.

Just an FYI we do have a homeless shelter here in town. Contact Community Action for information....I was not aware of the homeless problem either until I did Freezin for a Reason here in town. It was amazing to hear people's stories and for the awareness to be spread.

I have run into a middle age man with all his belongings in his car.  His story I don't know.  But have run into an elderly woman quite a bit.  Today she was wearing about 5 coats..I know we have the Salvation Army but where do they go at night?  I wanted to find out her story I just do not know how to approach it correctly without insulting anyone.  I just wanted to bring her home - clean her up and give her a bed..That's not feasible tho - I work.   And my husband would kick me harder than my horses...  SKM they " my horses"  may be liberal maybe that's my problem..LOL Thanks. biggrin

I saw that too.  I would think it could somehow be used as a shelter.

Are these homeless people also jobless? Perhaps someone innovative can turn it into a job prep shelter. Heck, maybe this could solve some of our job issues.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin
