Yes, I know that the hotels are not "Wal-Mart Hotels", but the idea is somewhat comical and somewhat scary to fathom. Wait, isn't there a hotel at the Mall of America and the West Edmonton Mall... hmmm, maybe it isn't comical.

...but it's still scary.cry

You think it's bad now?  There's a chance we could lose Great Lakes to a company out of Devils Lake that currently has no air planes.  The contract for Great Lakes in Dickinson is coming up and rfp's have been sent out.  Apparently the lowest bid is coming from Devils Lake.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I believe the hotels are going to be built on the area of land where the old Break-Away Lounge used to be.

I'll take a couple of nice hotels just about anywhere in this town at this point.  The Optimist Club is looking at putting some things together to bring people to town and it's difficult to do with no place for them to stay.

Check out www.willistonwire.com and check out the hotels that are coming.

I'll tell you all what....I suggest that we forget about bringing more people to town to stay in motels and focus on how to get them the heck out of here....not permanently just like in flying in and out.

Great Lakes is very very much not on my list of favorite airlines.  I or my wife have flown out of here or into here so many times I have lost count, and I would give an honest estimate of a 65% delay or cancellation on those flights.
Of course it may just simply be that I am a jinx. If you fly on GL and see me at the desk, better start looking for a Plan B.   Most of those delays also short circuit any chances of making your next connection.  It has absolutely nothing to do with the girls who run the desk and make sure people get taken care of; they are hard workers, and have a tremendously difficult job in trying to pacify irate people ...it has to do with the EAS not really giving a flip.  Those airlines with puddle jumpers that serve smaller communities get their money from the Gov't whether or not they service us.  The problem becomes, that the small vibrant communities such as Williston get shortchanged in so many ways.

I don't know the answer, but we are losing a lot of people over what should be simple issues such as flying.  A professional person is so NOT going to want to come to a place (Williston) where they more likely than not will be delayed or cancelled at some point on their flights, and as many times as I have watched this both at the Williston Terminal and the one in Denver, I am speaking from experience, and lots of that.

.....and now, that I am done pontificating, I will gladly take some cheese with my whine...

;o)

Will the anouncement of the two new hotels that are going to be built by Wal-Mart affect the outcome of the negotiations between the Parks and Recreation Board and the entity that is wanting to buy their land?

Or will the fact that they are in different locations keep the possiblity of another hotel alive?

Well, when the Parks and Recreation budgeted for the 2009 tax year, they planned for X amount of dollars above what they needed in years prior, understandably so.  It just so happened that the amount per mill increased from 19000 to roughly 23000.  The result is an "excess" in the amount of revenue they are going to receive.  Call it what you guys want but whenever my cup runeth over, it's called an excess.

I'm quite certain they did not see this increase in the amount per mill coming so even though using the word "excess" may appear as a "gotcha" all I was asking for was their plans for the usage of the "excess" funds.  What are the, as you stated, opportunities in front of us since we are going to have this "excess" amount of revenues?

I , for one, would like to be able to assume the Park board is moving forward with improvements and enhancements with the revenue gained from the pool scenario. However, with increases in costs of everything needed to operate in the last year, it is probably being sucked up by inflation.
I also would like to address the assumptive use of the phrase "excess revenue". As an opportunity for all tax funded entities to progress and move forward, perhaps we should be looking at the increase in revenue as an "opportunity" instead of an excess. A suggested shift in paradigm, if I might. Thanks for the opportunity to express myself, hopefully not in excess.

Yeah...Kingfish... I almost commented on that usage of the word "excess" also;  Steve might have worded it a little differently, but it was probably a perfectly innocuous statement rather than an attempt by Steve to play "gotcha".  Seems like in times like these everyone is trying to microanalyze every statement everyone else makes....

The gist of your comments are quite valid, though....let's see if the Park Board  and other political bodies, see this as an opportunity to move forward in every way.  And from my side of it, your comments are of excessively not in excess....quite succint actually....

It is rumored that talks between the Parks and Recreation and another hotel are ongoing.  Can you provide us fellow message board members with any hints, not necessarily to the company, but to the progress that is being made and the potential for this deal to work....if the rumor is true, of course.

Second, what do you plan to do with all the excess revenue you are going to generate due to the increase in the number of mills plus the increase in value of the mill?

...and thirdly....the money freed up (80K or so, by some reckoning) when the Park Board gave the indoor pool back to the High School?
