steve, gret questions. alot of the deficit is on speculated expensives especially on those new developments that are getting built. if willytown is anything like colo spgs, and i think it is when it comes to money and numbers on paper. the answer like vko pointed out. tax tax tax, stick the hand out. spend spend spend. if governments had to run like business's they wouldnt do alot of the things they do. buy new new new........ wow, sometimes i wish i could always buy new.....
Well word has it that the City land taxes are going up big time. Get ready for your next tax statement. Apparently that's how they will start paying for some of this. And I am sure they are going to hit the out of town people too as they are thinking about moving the Sheriffs Dept into the new jail area. Williston has always had the highest taxes in the state. Maybe it is time to really study who is running for new positions coming up. Williston should not have any deficit.
With the increase in population, I think we needed more cells.
I posted moreso to get people thinking about yesterdays article in the paper. Answers from those who know will be very much appreciated however. Also, I would like to know what people are thinking about in regards to these issues. Are there legitimate concerns with a deficit like this?
This is one of those certain "Williston Issues" this message board was created for so hopefully people will reply.

I know nothing about politics, I know nothing about how taxes are spent, I actualy know nothing, period.
What question can I answer that you asked ? NO, we did NOT need a new jail. No No No. I thought it was a stupid idea when it started, and i STILL think its a stupid idea. But maybe somebody was right, these people in jail definatly need a more open, cozy space.
How in the heck does Williston have a potential 6 million dollar deficit? Where's the sales tax money going? Where's the money for the sale of all the city land going? Heck...where's all the freaking property taxes that we pay going?
With all that is going on, how did this happen? Have we given too many tax breaks to new businesses? Is the cost of the new infrastructure to support these new buildings and all the construction costing us more than we anticipated?
Did we REALLY need to spend 17 million on that new jail? Could we have built something less fancy schmancy and still have had the same thing?
Kemper, does this mean your chances of bombing williston next is now slimmer than previously thought?
Final question...is a deficit like this normal?
