RE: Civic Duty and Community Service

Now that the candidates are set, I think, as Steve has suggested, that a forum/debate/discussion for candidates for all the City Positions... is a GREAT idea.

A person could ask a civil question and the candidate would have time to lay out a response without having to shoot from the hip. A thoughtful answer would give us voters a good look at the person's position way better than just a "sound bite" which we will get when they actually have a public forum at the library or wherever....

I realize that not everyone is internet savvy...but we are in a new world..
I say go for it....

I've only heard of two at this point that have turned in their petitions, aside from the incumbants.  The two non-incumbants so far are Kim Egge and Ricky Waitman.

I believe they have until tomorrow to turn their petitions in if I'm not mistaken.

I have not heard anything.  I do not even know if you can go to City Hall (or where ever you go to pick up your petitions) and ask who has done so.  I will find out for sure when every body else does, once we get past the deadline.

Jeremy, are you aware of anyone else other than the incumbants and Kim Egge that are petitioning to run for Park Board?

Won't or can't somebody post on this subject?  It is funny how all the complaints happen year in and year out, but there are so few who choose to take a stand... and the heat.   Jeez Louise...I sound like my old High School Civics teacher..... but you know what, he had it right.

There are a bunch of you guys politicians and non-politicians.... reading this forum... I think the kids these days call em lurkers....  C'mon, put your two cents worth in.  What you worried about, nobody gonna vote for you if you don't get involved?

Faint heart never won no fair maiden and all that...

The only board that I've kept my eye on that has seats open is the Park Board.

I'm pretty sure the incumbants have all put their hats back in, Larry Grondahl, Dave Slette, and Darcy Collings.  Kim Egge is also going to run.  I've been working with her in Leadership Williston and feel she would be very good on this board.  She's a straight shooter, no b.s. kinda person, has good common sense.

Not sure of anyone else running at this point.  Has anyone else been passing around a petition?

This is an election year....a number of seats on various boards are open.

This new forum seems like the perfect place to talk about it.  Many of us oldies have served our time in the trenches and would love to see fresh blood in training to run the community.  Actually, we are seeing some of that already.  I know Darcy Collings, and Dave Slette, to name a couple that immediately pop into mind, are out there setting the example along with others, but there are rafters of young adults out there hopping around, who could, and should, contribute.

It's your time, and it's your town.

Anybody game to discuss, or debate?   Who's running? Who wants to run? Who has a dream?

We are living in pretty special times here in Williston. There are more young people coming back here than ever before; at least it seems so to me.  Many of them have children.  The sorts of services and activities that these kids will have as they grow up are dependent upon the needs, wants, and demands of their parents.

How bout it? Let's have at it.
